There are so many good choices for TV and many bad ones. So much of it comes down to parenting. You actually have to take the time to LOOK to see what tey are watching. Most TVs also have parental controls now. Honestly, TV can be a decent thing, bit like most things it has to be monitored.

Those are good tips for anybody, whether or not you’re a mom. We sure do watch TV differently nowadays–no more sitting down to watch an episode when it’s on or you’ll miss it until it repeats who knows when! I like being able to watch shows on demand or on streaming services. I turn to the IMDB website frequently to figure out episode order and things like that.

Thank you for sharing these great tips. You have to monitor what your children watch constantly, parental controls are not enough as a deterrent.. It does help that some of our programs can be watched on websites.

My sister could use these. She watches stuff. I don’t.

Interesting ideas to track those shows I watch or that the kids watch. I don’t watch a lot of TV but don’t always “know” when my shows are on and miss some.

I try and make sure my kids are doing other fun educational things instead of just sitting in front of the TV. There is so many other things to do!

I think these are great tips for anyone honestly. There are so many other things you could be doing. I know when I was a kid out tv was very limited so we played outside a lot.. and liked it that way!

I really don’t watch that much tv, but I always feel like when I want to watch something, I miss it. Great ideas to keep track of shows for both myself and my kids!

I agree with magazines most of all. Highlights is a great magazine for kids that will keep them busy for ages with the puzles, jokes, and stories.

There are some really great educational apps out there now. My kiddos love ABC Mouse and there is a wonderful alphabet and puzzle one that they enjoy too. But when we try to get away from the screen the play-doh comes out or the crayons do… it is always one of those two options that my kids gravitate towards.

Things have gotten more complicated. I love having so many choices, but that makes making the best choice more difficult.

I use Netflix and Hulu to help me keep up with my shows. Usually have my niece here and she always gets the TV.
