Life can get you down and out sometimes, that’s for sure.
Sometimes you really get to that point where the only thing that will help is a vacation.
And if you can’t afford one, then you’ve come to the right place.
Declutter
It’s probably a little bit odd to start off vacation plans with cleaning, but hear me out.
According to statistics, the average home holds more than 300 000 items, and as ridiculous as that is, it means there is bound to be some stuff laying around that you don’t need and can sell to make a little extra ching.
Do you have an absurd collection of some kind? Coins? Jewelry?
Get rid of it.
You need a getaway more than you need clutter.
You can even fix up something you find for free and make it all pretty to sell.
Sounds a little out there, doesn’t it?
It’s actually not that weird at all. In fact, there are real-life people who make a living doing this so you can definitely do this once or twice to finance your vacay.
Hustle
Ah, side-hustles, one of the most popular topics today!
How can I make more money without taking on another ‘job’?
Well, there’s a reason why so many people today make a living without having a 9 to 5.
That’s because side-hustles are growing increasingly popular and there just isn’t a good enough reason to be stuck in an office job when you can work from, say, the Bahamas (like some bloggers do).
But hey, that isn’t everyone’s reality – I get it.
There are, however, quite a few side-hustles you can do to make some cash relatively quickly if you’re an average Joe like me.
Camp Out
Camping is so much more affordable than most types of accommodation.
In fact, there are tons of places you can go camping for free, all it takes is a little research, determination, and probably a tent of some kind.
Did you know you can even camp out in Sweden for free?
And the airfare isn’t that pricey either.
Camping is also a great way to get some fresh air and reconnect with mother earth.
Win-win, right?
Housesit
When I first discovered that international house-sitting was a thing, it seriously blew my mind.
There are websites like Trusted Housesitters, Mind My House, and Nomador that list housesits that are available all over the world.
You, as a housesitter, will pay a membership fee (annual or otherwise) that will allow you to apply for these housesits after you’ve created a profile.
There are family friendly housesits too, and most of the time housesits will involve taking care of pets too.
What an incredible age we live in that makes it possible to house-sit for someone on the other side of the world, for free, and then get to see and explore new places that way.
Rent A Road Trip
Ride Sharing isn’t a new concept, carpooling has been around since they had cars to share and for good reason.
Fuel is ridiculously expensive is why.
I swear one of these days you could buy gold for the price of fuel per gallon.
Anyways, the beauty of ride-sharing is that you don’t even necessarily need your own car.
You can hop on to sites like eRideShare and find available transport from travelers that are going your way.
Of course, you can also list a road-tripping opportunity on there and simply split the cost.
Take The Bus
Now if you have a flair for driving around with strangers in a cramped space while also sharing fuel and traveling on the cheap then a bus ride is your paradise.
You can map out an entire country-wide journey with bus travel, and you could enjoy it too, although most people don’t.
It’s stuffy and otherwise uncomfortable.
But then again, what road-trip isn’t?
Stay With Locals
Of all the things you can do on the internet, this is by far one of the coolest.
There are entire websites dedicated to people who need a place to crash, and they have tons of listings!
Couchsurfing is where people list what they have available and you can just take your pick.
But be sure to read through their safety guidelines to ensure that you don’t get yourself into any unsavory situations.
Stay safe and see the world!
Do Your Research
Google all the spots you’re interested in seeing and see if you can get any coupons or deals online for food, accommodation or entertainment.
You would be surprised how much it can help to be well organized and know your route and destination.
If you aren’t sure how to plan these types of things you can join facebook groups or ask online.
Read everything you can written by those who have done the same travels.
Travel blogs can be an invaluable resource for finding accurate information and decent reviews from an objective source.
Find Cheap Grub
So if all-inclusive is way out of your budget then that’s fine too, but you still need to eat.
Therefore, food needs to be at the top of some sort of priority list.
One surefire way to make sure you eat is to do look for accommodation that includes a breakfast buffet.
Since that is one of the more expensive meals in most places, it can go a long way toward saving you a penny or ten.
Be sure to load up then too.
This can count as your big meal for the day, and the rest you can snack or eat when you can find something cheap.
Other ways you can save is to avoid food places in tourist areas.
Food close to colleges and universities is also (usually) much cheaper.
Do Free Stuff
If your hotel/ BnB or wherever you’re staying offers free activities like tours or hockey or even gym, make use of those as much as you can.
Also, take to social media to find any free events or activities in the area and pen those into your travel itinerary.
Free events can also mean some cheap or free food, so that’s a plus.

Great money saving ideas a few of them I have thought of but some I have not thanks for sharing.
