Well I suppose that I’ll never have to cook again! Slow Cooking is the way to go thanks to 150 Slow Cooker Recipes by Judith Finlayson. And while my days of making sure the smoke detector is is fine working order (I swear I’m not really that bad of a cook, its just in the worst possible location!) aren’t totally over, I can definitely see myself breaking out my Slow Cooker more regularly.
As a single parent getting out of the house quickly and efficiently is the name of the game, and so I really value the fact that Judith has included in this cookbook tips on preparing parts of your meal before hand. Very useful indeed!
I would estimate that there were a dozen recipes in this cookbook that are on my immediate must try list, with another dozen coming up as recipes that I would like to try if I can muster up the courage to do so. I personally found that there were a lot of recipes for Chilis and other foods that we as a family do not eat, and so I would have preferred more of an eclectic collection of recipes, versus groupings of similar recipes.
Being that I grew up in a Norwegian household with a Mum who used very little seasonings I do tend to gravitate towards recipes with only a couple ingredients, which is definitely not the case with 150 Best Slow Cooker Recipes. The Recipes are a lot more involved then I am used to, which is a tad scary to me, but perhaps its time for me to step up to the plate and push my culinary skills to the max.
I would definitely have liked to see more photographs in the cookbook, but the photographs that they did have definitely made everything look absolutely delicious!
I was very happy with the inclusion of appetizers, breakfasts and desserts in this cookbook as they are items that I have never even considered attempting in the Slow Cooker! Who knew you could make delicous, and hearty breakfasts in the slow cooker the night before to enjoy the next morning. Well obviously Judith Finlayson knew!!!!
Now just to decide which delicious recipe to try first! The Chinese-Style Braised Pork, Lamb Korma with Spinach, or perhaps the Mushroom and Artichoke Lasagna… tough decision! Or perhaps I’ll indulge in my favourite recipe (that I am so glad to have found in this cookbook) the Sumptuous Spinach and Arichoke Dip. Wowza does that make a delicious appetizer. Then again I’ve been fairly sour lately, so maybe I should sweeten myself up with a sweet treat like the Rhubarb Betty!!!
All in all I definitely recommend Judith Finlayson’s 150 Best Slow Cooker Recipes. She has included a fantastic selection of recipes, and while my family may not be as adventurous is our food choices as some there are definitely a lot of keepers for us (the Boring Family).
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
