Skin treatments are everywhere these days and while off-the-shelf products claim great results, they often underdeliver for an overpriced payment. Alternatively, you could book an appointment at your local salon or treatment center for some therapy with the latest technological treatments such as lasers, Hydrafacial, or OxyGeneo.
As good as all of these are, they are very expensive and require booking, professional application, and some downtime. As a cheaper alternative or in between expensive sessions you could create your very own treatments that almost rival the Hollywood results of a spa treatment.
Modern treatments work in 3 stages:
- Exfoliate
- Remove impurities
- Hydrate the skin
The first step is to exfoliate the skin in order to remove dead cells while impurities such as blackheads then need to be removed and after these treatments, it is necessary to rehydrate and reinvigorate the skin and all of these can be done with one of nature’s greatest bounties, honey.
Exfoliate – Prepare the Skin
One of the most important skin treatments that you need to perform is exfoliation. Exfoliation works by rubbing granules over the skin and removes any excess debris such as dead cells from the top layer of your skin in preparation for a deeper treatment.
Exfoliating cream is relatively cheap but many off-the-shelf products contain harmful chemicals so you can make your own very simple exfoliate with ground oats and honey. Grind oats in a coffee grinder or pestle and mortar and then mix with honey. Apply this to your face with a round rubbing motion and then rinse with warm water, leaving your skin as fresh as the night air at lake front real estate.
Remove Impurities – Deep Clean
Stage 2 requires that you penetrate deeper into the skin than exfoliating is able to go. Impurity removal is necessary because it opens the pores and helps heal the skin from the harmful effects of such things as blackheads and sebum, the chemical that causes spots and pimples.
There are many available facial cleaners and while some of them work well, such as ProActiv, they can contain harsh chemicals that can have adverse effects on some skin types and ingredients can vary by country. To make your own facial cleanser just mix 1 teaspoon of honey with 1 teaspoon of Turmeric powder and mix into a paste. Then apply to your skin and remove with warm water, by now your face should feel as smooth as a wet mirror.
Hydrate the Skin – Protect and Revitalize
The final stage of a complete skin treatment involves rehydrating the skin as using even natural exfoliate and facial cleaners can dry out the skin, as well as everyday life. Skin hydration is an essential part of any routine and should really be done by everyone, even the guys. Hydrated skin prevents oils from building up and will prolong the effects of the first 2 treatments as well as improving elasticity for younger-looking skin and removing wrinkles.
Making a skin hydration cream isn’t as easy as throwing water on your face but it is still very simple. All you need to do is mix 2 tablespoons of manuka honey with 1 teaspoon of spirulina powder and 1 teaspoon of rose water. Then apply the mixture to your face and leave for 20 minutes before washing off with warm water, concluding your treatment that will clear up redness, acne and oil and make your friends think you have just spent the week at a spa.
