30 Days of Me: Day 7

Dec 21, 2021 | Rita

25 days of me december 2021

Finally one last post in the 30 Days of Me from 2013 that I thought I would repost for day 21 of the 25 Days of Me . The prompt for this was What does your name mean? Why were you named what you were named? I had to look up what my name actually means because to be honestly I did not know. It wasn’t something I needed to know before now.

The name Rita is of Spanish origin and the meaning of Rita is ‘pearl’. The name is a popular choice in Italy, England, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, Spain, Portugual, Latvia and Lithuania. The name is a short form of Margherita which means ‘daisy’, and is also the Italian form of the name Margaret, which comes from the Greek word ‘margarites’, meaning ‘pearl’.

That sounds so pretty doesn’t it? I would love to tell you that my father gave me that name because of the meaning but no he didn’t. I am named after my grandmother and my mother because as you know he couldn’t think of anything else. My middle name is Marie which is my mom’s first name. I was supposed to be named Summer Renee but my dad was not only excited to have a new baby but in shock that I was born in the toilet that he just couldn’t get his brain to process what he was suppose to name me. He said I was his Tinnie Renie because I was so small at just 2 lbs and then Rita came to mind.

Hahaha—“Rita” is so much more lovely than his first thought! I am Mary Elizabeth after my grandmother.

I like the meaning of your name. I was named after my aunt and my grandmother, I’ve looked it up before it means my god is plentiful

My name is Jean, which means “God’s gracious gift.” However, my dad said he liked the name because of the song “Jean” by Oliver.

My name, although spelled differently is from the latin root Felize, and means happy. My mom always recounts times that I was a happy baby

My name, James, is Greek, by way of the Hebrew “Jacob” and means “one who supplants”.

Even more interesting, I changed my last name, prior to getting married. So, my original last name is not “Arcade”, but it is now, legally. My wife and I decided that we wanted a new last name, for the start of a new family.

My name means “the light” or something like that…an Irish variation of the name Helen. (And I had an aunt Helen on both sides of the family). I hate hate my name. (pardon if there are other Eileens who like their name) but for me I was given a very “old” name that did not fit with the trendy names when I was born. So I am Eileen, My sister just above me Pauline, and the one above her is Kathleen. My oldest sister is Linda and she always said she felt left out and different so we just all her Linda “leen”. I joke to my mom that they had to be drinking some serious Irish Whiskey when they came up with those wonders. gah!

I have an aunt Rita, a neighbor I adored named Rita and had one friend in HS named Rita, all very sweet and pretty. So have always thought that a great name. It is true you attach a persona to most names after you KNOW someone by that name.

My name is also from Helen which was my Moms name. I wasnt named after her nor was I named for my Grandmother Ellen. Mom was in the Army when I was conceived and so when she gave birth after she came home she had to go to a military base and the closest was pretty far away. She had to stay there and got hooked on a soap opera where one of the characters was named Ellen.

Isabel is Elizabeth in Spanish. I was, as most Catholics, named after a saints day. Saint Elizabeth.

I tend to go by my middle name, Diana now. It is my mother’s middle name.
