We all know the importance of eating well. Having a healthy diet improves your life in so many countless ways. It’s hard to know even where to begin listing them! But are you getting everything that you need? The chances are unfortunately high that your diet is lacking in one or two key ingredients. Everything that we list here has many proven health benefits, so you would be wise to incorporate them into your everyday diet as much as possible. Let’s have a look at the top things you should try to get in every day.
Blueberries
Blueberries are a fantastic source of those cancer-busting antioxidants, so you should eat plenty of them. A recent study found that blueberries have more antioxidants than forty other fruit and vegetables. The good news here, of course, is that they also happen to be delicious. Blueberries are easy to integrate into your existing diet, so you don’t have many excuses for not eating them. Sprinkle them on your cereal, or just have them as an after-lunch snack. If you manage to eat about half a cup a day, you will be doing wonders for your immune system, and your wellbeing in general. One tip: don’t cook them. Cooking blueberries – even for a short amount of time – destroys plenty of that vital vitamin C.
Avocado
A natural and plentiful source of healthy fats, the avocado is a friend to anyone keen to look after their health. It is sometimes subject to some bad press, due to the high level of fat present in it. While it is true that it is very fatty, it is all unsaturated fat, and very good for you indeed. These fats are high in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids – both useful in the fight against heart disease. For that reason alone, the avocado is a fruit that’s well worth your time. If you’re still not convinced, then consider this: it is the second best source of natural antioxidants after the blueberry. An avocado a day keeps the doctor away!
Fish Oils
Speaking of those fatty acids, there are fewer greater sources of them than fish oils. Using fish oils as a daily practise has some proven benefits which you are sure to notice. These include the lowering of blood pressure and triglyceride levels. There is also a heap of evidence which seems to suggest that the fatty acids help fight off a vast number of diseases. Everything from asthma to cancer, depression and even psoriasis can be fought off with fish oils. There is little excuse indeed for not including these in your diet! Find the best fish oil to buy today, and incorporate it as soon as possible.
Coconut Oil
Another item which deserves a mention, and deserves the label of ‘superfood’, is coconut oil. Coconut itself is a delicious and health-boosting treat at any time. But coconut oil has specific benefits which make it something you should just not ignore. It has been shown to protect you from any number of viruses, as well as helping to reduce the likelihood of cancer developing. Not only that, it improves your complexion and helps you to burn fat. Ensure that you get a little coconut oil every day, and you can’t go far wrong.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

Don’t forget turmeric, garlic, ginger and cinnamon… Garlic both raw and cooked. Garlic greatly lowers blood pressure. Fights illnesses. 1\2 teaspoon raw every morning…

I need to revamp my diet to include some of these. I do the fish oil every day but really need to add blueberries. I’ve read good things about coconut oil but never sure how to fit it in.

I score really well on consistently eating three out of the four. Fish oil is my weak spot. I’m just not consistent with taking my supplement. I will have to do better!

I am afraid I do poorly in getting any of the 4 daily. Ilove them all- well except oil from a fish. I do eat fish though so that would count. I cant buy things out of season, it is overpriced. I love avacados and they are rarely good here.
Tara L says
I figured I already knew half of them but not the blueberries or avacados but I do love them, and would you prefer to have fish oil take as a pill or put on top of your food?
Rachel Beltz says
I feel like coconut oil is everywhere hah! I don’t know whether to eat it, mouthwash with it, or put it on my skin!
