I always wanted to be a runner. I do run some but not enough although I have been thinking about joining a running club. I don’t know if that will be the thing for me or not but it certainly something I am interested in. I put together five reasons why I think it is a good idea to join a running club.
Motivation
A running club will motivate you. That is something that I need more than anything else. I need someone to help motivate me into running and working out.
Structured Workouts
A running club will teach you structured workouts. Yes, running by itself is a workout but you need to do complimentary workouts in order to become a stronger runner.
Races and Marathons
Lets face it if you are wanting to run a race or even just attend an event a running club will have that information for you.I am thinking about training for a 5k next year. I am not sure if it is something I can even do but even if I train for it I wouldn’t know where the next race will be. A club will help me with that.
Socialize
You can meet new people who enjoy the things that you do. You don’t have to explain to them that you are training or why you enjoy running. If you are new to an area this is also a great way to learn more about the area from people who live there.
Routine
If you are wanting run more regularly a club will help with that. Since you will meet daily, weekly, whatever you will be more likely to get your run in. You won’t say that you don’t want to run by yourself or whatever.
Are you in a running club? Can you share your thoughts? Are you considering joining one? Let us know in the comments below.

I have never considered joining a running club myself. These all sound like great reasons to do so!

I would definitely be more motivated with a club. Not a fan of running though. It’s hard on your joints. Prefer to swim, as it’s low impact & perfect way to cool off in the summer.

I think it would be awesome for the social aspect and encouragement.
But, for me, no go.
I always get stitches in my side when I run. Even with breathing adjustments.
I do walk and hike though 🙂

Timely post for me, because although I’ve done the gym thing for a while (Stairmaster is my cardio of choice!), I’ve been missing running. Had to stop two years ago because of some ankle issues, & recently decided to start again by using the trail beside the river 5 minutes from my house, using the “None to Run” schedule (better than Couch to 5K)! That schedule will allow me to build up my base very slowly & ensure I don’t cause my ankle to flare up again. Fingers crossed it all goes well, & I’d love to look into local running clubs after that!
