Gibraltar, which is a British overseas territory, is situated at the tip of Spain and is arguably one of the most beautiful and unique places to pay a visit. There’s no getting around how small Gibraltar is, but that doesn’t stop it from packing in plenty of things to see and do, whether it’s getting a glimpse of the monkeys or experiencing the Gibraltar Gin Tour. To help you get the most out of your time, we’ve put together our top five things to do.
Casemates Square and Surroundings
We start our Gibraltar outing at Casemates Square, which is the perfect spot to chill out for a bite to eat and drink. Once you’re finished up there, we recommend soaking up some of the rich Gibraltar histories including the Holy Trinity Cathedral and National Museum.
Gibraltar Distillery Tour
Seeing as you’re right next door at Casemate’s Square, you may as well explore the Gibraltar Gin Distillery. Brought to you by Spirit of the Rock, the Gibraltar Distillery Tour promises to give you a glimpse into how the delicious gin is made, and you’ll also get to squeeze in some Gibraltar Gin Tasting.
In total, this tour takes around one hour to complete, but it’s well worth your time. To find out more about the Gibraltar Distillery Company, you can visit their website at: gibraltardistillerycompany.com.
Gibraltar Skywalk
If you don’t take some time out of your day to traverse the Gibraltar Skywalk, you’re missing out on one of the things that make this rock so unique. Along the trail, you’ll see spectacular views including glimpses of Africa and the Spanish continent.
Aside from the incredible view, one of the best parts about the Gibraltar Skywalk is the glass flooring, which has the ability to hold over 300 people. However, if you’re scared of heights – don’t look down.
O’Hara Battery
The highest point of Gibraltar is O’Hara Battery, so it’s well worth the visit for the views alone. You need to prepare yourself for quite a walk with this one, as it’s around 425 meters
high – and then a little more at the top. However, it’s well worth the trek to see this former military base.
Before you visit this attraction, check to see that it’s open because it does close at points throughout the year.
St. Michael’s Cave
If you want to experience a true feast for the eyes, then head over to St. Michael’s Cave, which has been crafted by Mother Nature for thousands of years. This stunning site has enormous stalactites and stalagmites and is the largest cave in Gibraltar.
If you enjoy this cave, we recommend heading over to Cathedral Cave, a 400-capacity concert hall underground, which is pretty incredible.
Even though Gibraltar is a small place, there’s plenty for the entire family to see and do. However, given how much walking you’ll have on your hands, make sure you’re wearing comfy shoes – and don’t forget to pack a camera so you can take these amazing views away with you.
