There are so many things to consider when you are planning to move to any town or city. Moving can be stress inducing to the most seasoned relocator like me. I grew up living the life of a military brat which meant plenty of moves during my childhood. Always making new friends, discovering new joys in every city. I will admit to being a small town girl at heart. So heading to a big city like Chicago would make me feel more stressed and overwhelmed. There are so many things to consider when moving and I’m not just talking about the move. Will you enjoy your new city? What will you do? Chicago is a wonderful city full of life that you will come to adore. In fact, here are 5 things that you will love about living in Chicago.
1. The Food
Did you know that Chicago is one of the best food scenes in the country? They are! If you love to eat then Chicago is the city for you. You will find Ethiopian, Danish, and Korean restaurants just to name a few. Not to mention the good old-fashioned BBQ places that will make this southern gal’s heart melt. Let’s face it, I love food and some of the best places I have eaten have all been in Chicago. Don’t even get me started on the pizza. I will never forget the first time I enjoyed a Chicago style pizza. I honestly never realized there could be that much heaven in a single slice. I also never knew there was such a difference in pizzas.
2. Different Places Within the Same City
One of the great things about Chicago is that the neighborhoods are all so different. You can walk through one neighborhood and then head to the next and feel as though you have entered a new city. You haven’t though, you are still in Chicago. Chicago is a place that brings so many different cultures together in one place. That cultural blend is seen in many of the neighborhoods. One of my favorite neighborhoods is Old Town. It was settled by German immigrants in the 19th century. It is also the birthplace of modern American improv. There is just something about Old Town that makes it my favorite, not any one thing but many different little things. The shops there are amazing.
3. The Architecture
Chicago has some of the first modern skyscrapers so they know what they are talking about when it comes to architecture. There is The Cloud Gate not to mention Frank Lloyd Wright plus you can take an architectural boat tour. Who wouldn’t want to take one of these? Some of my favorite architecture is the Catholic churches. They are simply beautiful in Chicago. In fact, St. John Cantius was named the most beautiful Catholic church in the country back in 2016. The churches in Chicago to me are what I think of when I think of a church.
5. The Rent
There is nothing like Chicago rent when it comes to living in a big city. Compared to other larger cities on the East or West Coast. It is affordable in a way that some other cities aren’t. You can easily afford to live in a big city and have all those benefits. If you are looking to rent a place in Chicago then I suggest you use a resource search such as Zumper to help. They have listings for all sorts of apartments, houses, and condos that are available to rent which can cut your search down to almost nothing. Not to mention you can get real time alerts based on your filter of location, price range, bedroom count, pet-friendly, or amenity. You can also submit your rental application and credit report online making getting into your new place a breeze.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
