I homeschool both of my children, it’s not that I think public schools are horrible or anything it’s just that through homeschool they have learned more and are much more advance than some of their peers. A couple of subjects that they have had trouble with in the past and that we concentrate on are math and reading. We work hard but I was really looking for something they could do on their own and learn. They hate when I hover!
Recently I had the opportunity to review the K5 Learning Program online. This is the perfect solution to the problem I was facing of keeping the kids engaged while allowing them learn at their own pace for brief periods during the day.
The K5 Reading and Math programs are award winning and not only select and provide story problems and math facts that are at their skill level and beyond, they also provide the parents with reports on how your child is doing. You and your child each get your own login and password allowing me to be able to review progress reports and the kids can log in to do their lessons.
I really liked that before my children began, the program provided an assessment so that it can determine their skill level. This is about a half hour assessment for each reading and math program, so I recommend that you maybe do them on separate days or space them out through the day, as it can get a little bit long. Both of my children liked the animation of the lessons. Don’t worry if your child(ren) come across questions that are beyond their comprehension, that is how the program determines which level they are ready for.
The K5 Learning Program offers 4 reading and math programs.
K5 Reading – helps kids become strong readers and develop a love of reading. This program covers phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, vocabulary and reading comprehension.
K5 Spelling – is an advanced vocabulary program which improves language skills one word at a time. It features adaptive instruction, automatic word generation, an optimized visual interface and a 15,000+ word database.
K5 Math – builds self confidence and a deep understanding of math concepts. K5 Math covers numbers and operations, geometry measurement (including time and money), algebraic thinking and data analysis.
K5 Math Facts – uses adaptive technology to help kids develop instant recall of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Progress on each and every math fact is monitored until mastery is obtained.
Each program is customized for each individual child. . Your child is working at his/her very own skill level, being challenged along the way as they progress. It is an opportunity my children to work independently but still gives me the option of viewing their progress reports at any time.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I’ll have to keep this in mind for when my wife and I have kids. Sounds like a cool program. Since I am inept, when it comes to math, this could be very helpful for helping to teach our kids math, as well. And who knows, I may learn a thing or two, as well!
