Prom season is one of the most exciting times in a young woman’s life. This special night can be even more memorable when the right preparations are in place. Here are seven of the essential things that girls must do to make sure they look their absolute best on prom night.
1. Book Makeup and Hair Appointments
About a month before prom, make sure hair and makeup appointments are booked. This will guarantee that getting to a quality salon to get ready for prom won’t be too much of a hassle. It’s best for girls to do a little research on the salon if they’ve never been before to ensure the stylists there can help to achieve the desired prom look. Booking an appointment for hair and makeup early can also make it easier to select a dress that will go well with a smokey eye or an up-do.
2. Get Facials
A facial should be booked three or four days before the prom. This gives the skin enough time to recuperate and decrease in redness in case a treatment like a glycolic peel or microdermabrasion is performed.
Girls who are not accustomed to getting facials may want to have their first treatment about six weeks before prom, along with an additional treatment a week before the event. This provides enough time to see whether there are any substances that are causing an allergic reaction in the facial ingredients, so these ingredients can be eliminated right away. According to DisneyFamily.com, it’s best for young women who have acne-prone skin to wear their hair away from their faces for the prom and use products that contain benzoyl peroxide days before the event to clear up any existing blemishes.
3. Teeth Whitening
You women attending the prom should have their teeth whitened at least two weeks in advance. According to Teen Vogue magazine, this timeframe is ideal for young women who are using whitening strips at home. The teeth can be especially bright and overwhelming right after treatment; after a week or so, the radiance will have died down but the teeth will still be white and appealing.
4. Book a Tanning Appointment (or Two)
A month before the prom, it’s ideal for girls who want to add a little sun-kissed color to their complexions should get a sunless tan. This can be done at a tanning salon or with at-home products. Engaging in this procedure ahead of time will show how the product will look on the skin, and will give the young lady time to find the products that work. Three or four days before the prom, an additional treatment may be needed so that the tan is especially fresh on prom day.
5. Find the Perfect Dress
It’s also ideal for girls to find the right dress about a month before prom. This leaves enough time for alterations to be made, if needed. Once the perfect dress has been bought, suitable undergarments can be selected. Push-up bras are a popular accessory that can significantly increase a girl’s confidence for the big night, and are necessary for certain styles of dresses.
6. Select Accessories
Ideal jewelry pieces for the dress should be purchased about a week before prom, which gives the young lady enough time to try all the jewelry on with her dress. Large, chandelier-style earrings are ideal for a dress with a covered neckline, while a modest necklace or studs usually work best with backless and strapless dresses.
7. Book and Mani and Pedi
A manicure and pedicure is best booked the day before prom. This gives the polish ample time to dry on the nails, ensuring that the pedicure or manicure won’t become smudged while getting dressed for prom.
These important actions will help to boost a girl’s confidence as she gets ready to dance the night away with friends or spend some quality time with that special someone. Getting a head start on these beauty regimens will also make for beautiful prom pictures that will represent fond memories in the years to come.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

These are great tips! The tip about getting a facial about 6 weeks before is a great tip. The first time you have a facial you almost always break out. I know that was they way it was for my sister and myself. There is a lot that goes into going to the prom and planning in advance is very important.
