- Figure out your personality. Writing a list of things that you know about yourself will help. You need to be honest, though, so when you’re writing your traits that are good and bad make sure that you are honest about the ones that are bad as you would be about the ones that are good. You could also write down some things about what others would choose to use to describe you. Picture yourself and your group of friends – what role do you play? How would a stranger look at you? These are things that you need to be able to answer to get to know your personality better.
- Understand your values. Psychologists will often emphasize that mostly everybody has a few core values, and these values play the biggest roles in ensuring that your choices are valid at work and at home and in life. Some people believe that their values lay in being honest, hard-working and trustworthy and these are moral commitments that you have. - Get to know your strengths and weaknesses. Everybody has strengths and everybody has weaknesses. Once you get to know this you can understand the career you should be in and the hobby that you should have. You can also understand more about how and why you do things the way that you do them.
- Make your mission. Businesses have a mission statement, and you can have one, too. When somebody asks you what you want to do with your life you shouldn’t need to stumble over it. Start imagining the dream future for yourself and start making plans. If you have a goal you can create a pathway to get there
- Be honest with yourself. It’s not an easy thing to do, but if you want to really get to know yourself you need to make sure that you are honest with who you are about who you are and so other people take your time and sit with that for a while. It may take some time to get used to the idea.
