A Dream Unfolding by: Karen Baney

Feb 20, 2011 | Rita

Living a comfortable life in Cincinnati, Dr. Drew Anderson and his wife Hannah have everything they hoped for. That is until  Drew’s brother commits an act that turns their world upside down. When their friends won’t speak to them and patients no longer come to the clinic  Drew and Hannah know they are going to have to do something. After reading an ad in the newspaper,Drew decides to move out west where no one knows about his brother. Hannah doesn’t want to move to Arizona, but knows it must be done. While Drew is a very good doctor on the wagon train he feels less than good enough at handling a wagon, not to mention he doesn’t know how to shoot a gun. He is very much a city-boy. Drew second guesses his decision at every turn, especially with Hannah. He has felt from the start that God was leading them to Arizona and prays things will work out.

Will Colter grew up in Texas on his father’s ranch. While he loved the ranch he always knew it would never be his but someday the ranch would belong to his older brother. After the  death of his father, his brother  gives him two weeks to leave the ranch. Will is given half of the livestock and financial holdings but everything else including guardianship of his sister,Julia, belongs to his brother. After finding some documents belonging to his father about the Arizona territory Will believes God is leading him to Arizona, and while he knows it wont be an easy trip, his faith and the hope of establishing his own ranch propel him forward!

While this story starts out about the Anderson’s, Will Colter, plays a very prominent part in it. Each story is heart wrenching at times and I can only wonder if this is what the west was really like. Ms. Baney has written a story that draws you in and realize that God was “person” people in this day and age could turn to. Their faith is touching, the way they believe even in the face of uncertainty.
