Have you been in a car accident? I bet that the number of you that say yes you have is greater than the number of you that say no. Even if it was just a fender bender it can be scary. I can remember my first accident and I tell you that there is simply nothing scarier except trying to remember everything that you need to do after. Although I am going to tell you that in my opinion the very first thing that you need to do is take a deep breath!! Go ahead and cry or scream if you need to and who cares what anyone else thinks. Take a moment and let it all out then proceed to get a handle on yourself.
Call 911
If someone is injured call 911 right away! This is so important and I know that you may be angry (I got hit once and anger is the first emotion) but it is important to get help to those that need it. Not to mention you need the police to come so you can file a report regardless of injury or not.
Be Prepared
Have your information such as your license, insurance, and registration with you at all times. You are going to be asked for them and if you don’t have them you could end up getting a fine.
Don’t Leave
This is a big one! Don’t leave the scene of the accident. It is important for you to stay there and leaving can result in some serious trouble. No point in adding to your distress by leaving and ending up with those pretty silver bracelets.
These are just a few of the steps to take after the accident. There are so many more that you need to do but most importantly is to take care of yourself. Accidents happen and while a car accident isn’t something we want to remember that if the only thing that is damaged is the car then you are very lucky and be thankful for it. Even though at the time it won’t feel as though there is anything to be thankful for.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

You’re welcome. Many people do forget but when you are in an accident you tend to forget your own name.

You have been blessed and I am sure that anyone you hasn’t had a major accident feel the same way. Accidents are scary! I remember once when my brother and I had an almost accident (thank God we didn’t) and he just grabbed me and said “this is going to hurt!”

Someone backed into me in a parking lot last weekend and i was so shaken. It really is scary even if it isn’t a big wreck.
Rita says
Sometimes that sort of small wreck can really get to you more than a major one.
