After a Car Accident with Injury

Jun 14, 2018 | Rita

It is not uncommon to get injured after a car accident. After all your body is flying around in your car (hopefully within the confines of your seat belt) and injury happens. I remember the first accident I was in where I was old enough to know it. A lady has backed into us in an empty parking lot because she was balancing her checkbook and pressed on the gas. I mean who sits there with their car running and their foot on the gas while balancing their checkbook?

I didn’t think I had any injury and it wasn’t until an hour or so later that my body felt the effects of the accident. I didn’t think much about it because I was just jarred around. Our car was hit on my side but more to the back and didn’t feel that hard. Later though moving my neck at all hurt. I could barely turn my head and my shoulder refused to move from the position it was in. I didn’t notice any of that at first because of the adrenaline that had been running.

Luckily for me the police officer that had responded told me that sometimes you feel fine but you aren’t really. He insisted that I get checked out and it was while waiting in the emergency room that my injuries made themselves known. I was able to get everything taken care of but I didn’t know the fight I would have on my hands later. The lady that hit us? Well her insurance company argued that it was our fault.

How in the world they thought that when there was surveillance footage and a dozen witnesses who all said the same thing. She didn’t even begin to back up until we were almost past her. So I was stuck having to fight her insurance and her to get not only our car paid for but also my injuries paid for. I didn’t want anything extra. I just wanted my bills taken care of and my car fixed.

Finding someone to help can be difficult and hunting for a good attorney especially in the Tampa area can make you want to pull your hair out. I think I had as much trouble finding an attorney that I felt comfortable with as I did with getting things paid. The first guy I spoke with seemed a bit creepy and was planning to sue for this huge amount of money that made me feel uncomfortable.  I would suggest that you search personal injury attorney Tampa which will get you results quickly.

Of course if you are in a different area you would search your area for example, Personal Injury Attorney New Orleans. From there I would suggest that you make a couple of appointments and talk with a couple different attorneys. You want to feel like they can help you and what they are doing for you is fair. You also want to feel comfortable with them. After all you are going to have to discuss everything about the accident as well as your injury. Some injuries could be embarrassing. Trust me I know because I have some moments where I wanted to just die before sharing what had happened and where. Y’all know y’all have too. What matters the most though is getting the help you need when you need it.

This is very good advice. First of all sometimes you DON’T know you are injured until afterwards. And a good lawyer is a must if you are. A older lady backed into my fiance’s vehicle about a month ago trying to get out of a very busy drive thru at McDonalds. Luckily the only thing hurt was his van and her insurance paid for the repairs within two weeks so we didn’t need a lawyer.
