I don’t know about all of you but we love to cook outside. I do it as much as possible even in the winter because I think it makes the food taste better. If course in the summer I do it mostly so I don’t heat up the house too much. that is why I was interested in the outdoor griddle from Blackstone. I saw them in the store recently and then went in search of more information. I was thrilled when they agreed to work with me.
Blackstone began in 2005 with their 36″ Blackstone Griddle and since then have grown their product line as well as their knowledge of griddle cooking. They are dedicated to culinary greatness and excellence. I am sure that you have never thought about cooking outside on anything other than the old standard sort of grill. Let me be the first to tell you that once you start going on the griddle you won’t want to stop.
We received the Blackstone Products 28” Outdoor Griddle and I barely managed to take pictures before we were putting it together. In fact, I was so eager to use it I forgot to take photos of it prior to use. Hey it happens! Not to mention this is the first time I can remember being this excited about a way to cook outside.
It all came in a fairly large box and as you can everything was placed inside the box well. The griddle top itself was a little heavy for me to pick up on my own. But with another person I had no trouble.
Putting everything together was a breeze. Although I had help in that my uncle read the instructions to me as I put it together. It would have been no trouble doing it all by myself other than lifting the top.
This is a gas grill and the tank hangs easily on the side. The igniter button you see there takes a battery. If you get it all together and the burners don’t light or even spark, check the way you have the battery in there. I put in backwards and kept saying “I know that battery is good.” before I realized what the problem was.
The little grease pan (or trap depending on what you call it) hangs on the back of the griddle. It is very easy to hang back there and remove. I remove mine every time I use the griddle and clean it. I do it to keep ants under control. We learned years ago with our regular grill that the smallest amount of grease will excite the ants and make them swarm.
FOODS YOU CAN MAKE
The food you can make on this griddle is limited only by your ability and imagination. We have made almost anything you can think of except pancakes but that is coming next weekend. When we have the whole family here soon I am making pancakes or maybe the Mountain Man Scramble that was in the little cookbook that came with the griddle.
We have made bacon among other things. This was a breakfast that I woke up to the senior citizens making for me on Saturday. I can’t tell you how nice it was. The entire pack of bacon fit on the griddle also. Usually I have to cut it in half and then cook it in batches when I do it on the stove.
As you can see there is more than cooking space on the top of this baby. In fact you can cook like 20 hamburgers on it, again something we are going to find out next week for Memorial Day.
TOOL KIT
The Tool Kit is a must have item! I love that it gives you all of the basic tool that you need right away.
Having oil inside the bottle is a huge help. While you don’t need oil every single time you cook there are certain foods that need a little. Not to mention it being in the bottle helps inside the kitchen more as well.
The scraper is perfect for chopping onions and veggies while cooking them or getting any left over food off while cleaning.
There were also two turners in the kit. Let me tell you that I love these! Since I am petite I have small hands. Most turners’ handles are simple too long for me. That is true with knifes as well. These fit my hands perfectly which is high praise, trust me. If the handles were longer I would never be able to use them. The good new is my uncle and brother (who is over six feet tall) is able to use them easily as well. The metal part is long but the handle is awesome.
Ladies, if you are thinking about what to get the man in your life for Father’s Day then this is it! Maybe you just want to get something special for the start of summer. I promise you that you can’t go wrong and will not be disappointed with any product from Blackstone.
