How many of you have always wanted to give a standing desk a try? Oh! Oh! Me (raising my hand like a excited school girl who knows the answer!) but I have been wary about it. I looked at the ones that had the full table with legs and such. The problem with those is that I wanted to stand but not all the time. Enter AnthroDesk.com who offered me the best possible solution.
I was sent the AnthroDesk: ErgoSpring Standing Desk Converter – Extra Wide to try out and I will tell you I was pretty excited. This sits on top of your desk or table, although it could sit on the floor on its out. I pretty short so having it on the floor and then raised all the way would actually work for me.
When you take it out of the box there is a keyboard holder piece that you have to attach. We did but then took it off. Again because I’m short that didn’t allow me to reach my laptop well while I was standing. I’m working from my laptop at the moment because we had a bit of a disaster happen in the office area that we are repairing. So everything there is a no go at the moment
As you can see all the way down, it looks like a large lap desk. That slot at the front can hold your pens. My iPad will slide into there and I can read from it easily.
Raising the desk is simple. You put your hands in the hand slots, on the right hand one is the lever. Push it and pull up. Although you really don’t have to pull. I held onto the desk as it raised out of habit. Once I had things on it I felt like it kept things stable, although that isn’t true or really needed. Another thing I did was making sure it was lowered at the end of each day. I didn’t want the twins getting their little fingers hurt.
As you can see underneath it works must like your screen door. There is one of those pump shocks on one side. It is what raises and lowers the desk itself.
For me, standing up this is the right height. I made sure that I was standing straight (you can see me in the laptop screen) and that my hands would fit comfortable at that level. I also didn’t want to have to look up too much or down.
I needed everything at the right height for me. Once I got it to that height I just let go of the lever and it stays. I’m able to work with very little problems. I lower it all the way at the end of the work day. I also lower it when I am sitting. But I make a point now of standing every couple of hours and then work for a couple of hours that way. My back doesn’t hurt as much and I have found that am getting so much work done. Way more than when I sit hunched over all day.
Like I said I am loving this! I move much more through out the day now. I didn’t realize just how many hours I spend sitting at my desk until I began standing up more. I can’t wait until my office area is finished and I can move away from the table.
