Academy of Hair Design (AOHD) in Springfield, MO is a school devoted to the art and science of personal care. For over twenty years AOHD has served the community by training top students who have gone on to work at elite salons in Springfield and beyond. Graduates are in demand because AOHD focuses on the latest trends in beauty and personal style. Classes are taught using only the top retail and trade products. Many graduates have gone on to run their own successful salons armed with business skills learned at AOHD which insists on offering business classes as a required part of the curriculum.
AOHD offers four different programs to its students: cosmetology, barber, esthetics, and manicuring. The cosmetology program features cutting-edge techniques and hands-on experience in a simulated atmosphere that gives students a taste of the delights and problems of a real-world salon or spa. AOHD offers the only accredited barber program in the Springfield area. This program combines traditional barber skills such as shaving and clippercuts with the newer cutting and coloring skills that the modern world demands.
The esthetics program focuses on relaxation and skin care. Students use top-of-the-line products and equipment to learn how to make their clients feel good inside and out through the use of cosmetics and relaxation massage. Graduates of the manicuring program go out into the cut-throat field of nail care armed with the mastery of current techniques and skills such as fiberglass and sculptured nails. All programs feature business training and experience in a model salon, spa, or barbershop. More information can be found at aohd.com.
Students of AOHD develop independent learning skills which enable them to grow personally and professionally throughout their careers by thinking critically and continually setting future goals. The world is constantly changing and these skills ensure that the graduates will be able to anticipate and adapt to social and technological changes.
AOHD does more than turn out excellent stylists and cairns hairdressers; it was founded with a purpose of serving others by developing a network of schools in other countries in order to empower the disenfranchised and give them hope for a better future. By opening a sister school in Kigali, Rwanda, AOHD is teaching valuable trades which will enable students to contribute to the local economy. Details on this program can be found at aohd.com.
For those interested in a well-rounded, artistic education focused on salon arts AOHD is an excellent choice. By mixing up-to-the-minute skills with business acumen and a devotion to philanthropy, the school produces stylists knowledgeable in the latest trends who are familiar with the team-work necessary in top salons and a desire to do good work in both their professional and personal lives.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

AOHD is new to me, but it sounds like a great center to learn about personal care for stylists. My mom was once interested in going to a beauty school, and Springfield isn’t too far.

We used to have a big name place in our town but they have closed. This sounds like a great school for these types of careers.

Any group whose goal is to ’empower the disenfranchised and give them hope’ is a hero in my book and it sounds like they are doing excellent work.
