Okay I will admit that I have heard the term Birth Plan before but was not really sure what it really was all about. I always thought that when you were pregnant and went into labor that the doctor made decisions and that was pretty much it. You simply went with the flow (this is what happens when your children are not your natural children.) So as a For Dummies Ambassador when the chance came to learn more about birth plans I jumped at it.
In Birth Plans For Dummies Rachel Gurevich and Sharon Perkins, RN teach you everything from working out your labor and delivery preferences ahead of time to understanding the many birth options available to you. There are 7 parts broken down over 22 chapters to help you make decisions such as The Ins and Out of Labor and Delivery to Welcoming Your baby to the World. One interesting thing was choosing a birth place and deciding who would make the guest list. Now I don’t know about all of you but to be honest I really don’t want an audience when I am not really at my best. There is no telling what words will come out of mouth or God forbid the doctor whips out a needle and I pass out. Being made fun of is not something I am hoping for either.
There is a lot of information in this book but it is broken down in a way that when you finish you really have a full grasp of Birth Plans. I really like the fact that Dad is mentioned a lot with things that he can help do and/or be a part of. It really helps make the entire process a family event. If you are unsure about birth plans, what they are, if you need one, or even how to create one then Birth Plans For Dummies is for you!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I agree with you as I thought it should be up to the doctor. I think I would be too scared of a home birth though
