Today is my birthday and I want to celebrate with all of you! I have two giveaways today. One is for all of my readers and something everyone can use. Birthdays are meant to be fun no matter how old you get. Some of my favorite birthday memories are the ones spent with family. Although I will tell you a secret, I look forward to hearing hubby sing Happy Birthday to me every year. It is just something he has always done whether he has to call me to do it or not and I love it!

I remember a birthday party that I had when I was a kid in Audubon Park in New Orleans where they used to have an old train engine that (back in those less regulated days) you could climb on. We had a white cake with coconut icing, I still remember!

My favorite birthday memory is more in line with a tradition than a memory. Every year on my birthday my mother in law would call, first thing in the morning. There was no hello, there was no “Happy Birthday”….as soon as you answered the phone she started singing. She had her own version of the happy birthday song. Through the years, I have not been a huge fan of birthdays. When I was a child, all my celebrations involved all my cousins and relatives. My adult birthday’s, are now celebrated with people taking m out to dinner. The one that brings back memories was a surprise 25th party, there had to be 50 people there and they took me dancing at every club in town. It was fun, but took a week to recover, hahaha! 🙂

So, another one of our friends one day invited us over and it was a Saturday before both our birthdays, we just thought all three of us were going to hang out at her house. My and my mom’s and my dad’s and my son’s birthdays are all within a couple of weeks of each other. My favorite memory is in the summer of ’09 when we had a birthday blowout! Everyone had so much fun and lots of the family came out. We even had fireworks! We took lots of pics and there is a great one of me and my mom! She passed away 10 days later.

He got up extra early to go to work, made me breakfast at his parents house, and drove to my parents house to sing to me with an “oat cake” that he made using my favorite recipe, all before his work day. Now that we’re married, my favorite birthday memory is waking up with him and him singing happy birthday to me while we’re both half asleep 🙂

I would say my my 30th birthday, the people at work had gits, cake and lunch for me. Then when I got home my family and friends were there and mt husband surprised me with a trip to Vegas and we left the next day.

I was turning 30 and the guy I was dating rented a limo to take a group of us to the UW football game. Then he took me to a bar/restaurant where all of my family was waiting for a surprise party. I had NO idea. He was such a sweetheart and I was so touched he had gone to so much preparation for me. He always brought me flowers too and did that day too. Sigh….

My favorite birthday memory is that I had an aunt that would always make a Barbie birthday cake. It was really cool because there was a Barbie in the middle of the cake and the cake part was a big ball gown surrounding Barbie from the waist down.

My favorite memory was in early grade school, my dad had been building a dog house. He had been telling me that it was where I would go when I was bad. When I came home from school on my birthday, he told me to look in the dog house. Out came the cutest puppy I ever seen!

We never had birthday parties as children in my family, but I do remember going to a neighbor girl’s party. The balloon I burst during the game was a winner. I won a box of 64 crayons! I felt like it was my party then.(This is the easly1970’s) I had never had a box of colors so big since I was from a poor farmer’s family with six children. I have never forgotten that party after all these years and how happy I was.

I have old photos of my birthday when I was about 10. I had my teddy bears and best friends there and everyone looked so happy. I look at that pic a lot and that’s my fav birthday.
