Book Review: Third Debt by Pepper Winters

I have posted about Third Debt by Pepper Winters a few times sharing a little from the book with you all. I will tell you that I came across this particular series while I was away and was intrigued by it. I read that it was a sort of retelling of Romeo and Juilet and I almost didn’t read because well I HATE how that story ended. However I was bored and began reading the series anyway. The first thing that I noticed is that is fairly dark so if you aren’t comfortable with that then you should stop right now. I didn’t think I would be but Pepper Winters really draws you and makes you feel for the characters in a way that when things happen to them it actually hurts you.

My Thoughts

I was thrilled to finally get to read Third Debt because I really wanted to know what was going to happen with Nila and Jethro. I will tell you that the emotional roller coaster ride this book took me on was almost too much to bear! At one point I put it down and told myself I couldn’t read anymore but then I had to know what happened. The ending of this book made me want to curl into a little ball and cry like a baby. When I finished it I said ” I’m not reading the next one. No way! No how!” Yeah that’s a like because I have to know. I have to know if that ending was all part of some elaborate plan or what.  Jethro’s brother Daniel I HATE!!! I mean with a I want to reach through the pages and rip out his heart. He don’t need it because don’t have one and neither does their father or Grandmother for that matter. Those three better get their comeuppances or I am going to be one peeved off chica! Jethro tries so hard to not love Nila, going to far as to take pills.

However he simply can’t even if loving her will be the death of them both. Nila loves Jethro more than she ever could imagine and now the third debt has come due. It is a horrendous debt too. If you haven’t read the series yet Nila is a Weaver and her family,generations ago, wronged the Hawks (Jethro’s family) and now thanks to a contract the first born daughter of the Weavers has to pay each of the debts. I use the term debts lightly too because it is really more torture than anything. In the Third Debt we finally find out what is wrong with Jethro as well. It wasn’t what I expected it be and I must say that I LOVE it! I too suffer from this particular issue (not to Jethro’s extreme) and love that someone put it into words, so to speak. These characters are well written and even though the story is dark it is one of my favorites.
