Book Review: Whiskey Secrets by Carrie Ann Ryan

Jan 08, 2018 | Rita

I am a huge Carrie Ann Ryan fan! I read everything she writes and love all of her work. This book is no different! I was excited about a new series and all the wonderful things that go with it like meeting all of the characters. The dedication for this book is so touching. If you don’t know Carrie Ann loss her husband a few short months ago which just makes this book all the more special.

About WHISKEY SECRETS (Whiskey and Lies #1)

Sparks fly between a former cop-turned-bartender and his new innkeeper in the first installment of a Montgomery Ink spin-off series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan.

Dare Collins is a man who knows his whiskey and women—or at least that’s what he tells himself. When his family decides to hire on a new innkeeper for the inn above his bar and restaurant, he’s more than reluctant. Especially when he meets the new hire. But he’ll soon find that he has no choice but to work with this city girl and accept her new ideas and the burning attraction between them.

Kenzie Owens left her old life and an abusive relationship behind her—or so she thought. She figures she’ll be safe in Whiskey, Pennsylvania but after one look at her new boss, Dare Collins, she might still be in danger, or at least her heart. And when her past catches up with her despite her attempts to avoid it, it’s more than her heart on the line. This time, it might mean her life.

My Review

of the book

I LOVE the Collins men! They are so great although I wasn’t sure about Dare at first. I thought he was a bit of a jerk but as the story developed and I learned more about him I began to like him. He was a complex guy and had life had him a few lemons but came back punching. Owning the bar that is below his parents inn keeps him busy. Too busy to do much of anything else. So when his parents decide they need to hire an innkeeper he ain’t happy.

In fact, he insults Kenzie right from the get go. But slowly he grows on her and entire Collins family pulls into their circle. I love that about the families in Carrie Ann’s books. They all seem to be stronger together and they know it. Even when one of them acts like a giant douche canoe. Kenize on the other hand has a brother that I wanted to punch in the mouth. I could not believe him.

I will tell you there is an incident with an elderly couple staying at the inn that had me laughing out loud. If you read the book (and I highly recommend that you do) let me know what you think of that moment. All in all this was a wonderful story that left me ready for the other two brothers’ stories.
