Brain Chase Summer Learning and The Sunstone of Cortés

You all may remember recently that I told you about Brain Chase! To refresh your memory Brain Chase is  a 5-week online summer learning challenge for kids in grades 2nd through 8th in the United States, Canada and Mexico. It is a massive global treasure hunt powered by reading, writing and math challenges completed by kids. This challenge offers kids a learning adventure that is fun, personalized, and motivating that also includes a $10,000 scholarship and trophy to one “winner”.

The theme of this year’s challenge is The Sunstone of Cortés and there is an ACTUAL Sunstone buried somewhere in the world! How awesome is that?  It is about 12 inches in diameter and has mechanically rotating components that open to reveal the center compartment, where the key to retrieve the $10,000 prize will be hidden. Just thinking about it makes me want to go all Indiana Jones and start looking for it! Oh come on!! You know you want to as well. Who wouldn’t want to hunt for real buried treasure!

Even More Great Things About Brain Chase

  • Teachers: Brain Chase is offering $15 to teachers for each of their students that they refer to Brain Chase. Registrants who hear about Brain Chase from a teacher can simply enter that teacher’s name and school name at registration which is awesome. Kids fight summer brain drain to win a treasure… and teachers win too! Here are some flyers you can hand out to your students.
  • The Brain Chase Library Challenge: Throughout the month of May, Brain Chase will be hosting a 4-city Library Challenge. In each of the following cities, they will hide a voucher worth $1,000 in a local public library. A unique riddle will lead adventurers to the exact location of the voucher and a complimentary Brain Chase registration:
    Seattle (May 11)
    Boston (May 18)
    Orange County (June 1)
  • Premium Pricing Package: Beginning May 1, after early bird pricing ends, Brain Chase will be offering their regular pricing package ($199 for the first registration, and then $100 for each sibling), along with a premium pricing package that will include Brain Chase registration plus a Brain Chase-branded adventure backpack, a Brain Chase t-shirt and Sunstone of Cortés patch ($249 for the first registration, and then $149 for each sibling). Later in the summer, these items will be available for a la carte purchase. You’ll be able to find the details on the website soon.

  7. I TOTALY DID THIS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! Back in the day, it was just a workbook that I would finish 3/4 of, but I didn’t realize they still did these!

  8. I love the aspect of learning during the summer months but the price is a little daunting. I did just buy a workbook for my daughter to get her up to speed for next year. That will have to do for this summer plus reading.
