Breaking Down Spring Break

Apr 18, 2016 | Rita

Spring Break Written in Sand on Beach

Did you or are you planning on Spring Break this year? I know some places have already taken it while others are in the process of getting ready for it. That is one of the great things about Spring break is that it honestly seems to happen for a couple of months somewhere in the world. Of course maybe that is just me since I have family members all over the world and it has seemed lately that every time I talk to someone they are getting ready for it.

Have you every really wondered what exactly everyone does when they head out for Spring Break and I am not necessarily talking about college students because we all know what they do and most of us have been there before? When you take the time to actually break down Spring Break by the numbers I think that you would be really surprised. I know that I was. For example I didn’t realize that so many people spent time actually sightseeing (42.9%) because I guess I thought most people didn’t do that as much anymore. I actually figured that most of the time was spent eating at restaurants (49.2%) because that would be inevitable for most of us. However the sight-seeing thing seem more like an older person sort of thing. Although I personally love sight-seeing. In fact my brother and I are planning a trip next year to visit some of the places Forrest Gump was filmed. He loves that movie and wants to go there. Of course he also wants to take a tour of coastal lighthouses. Both could be fun!

Another thing that really surprised me was that so many people were planning on spending less than $500 (31.2%). I didn’t realize you could actually do it for that little. Of course I have four children so that usually adds up pretty quickly. I think our plan for next year was around $2000. That is what I budgeted allowing for not only a place to stay and meals but also gas and shopping money. Plus a little extra just in case of an emergency. After all you just never know what could happen. Our plan is about average with most other people I think. It is hard to plan ahead money wise and I wanted to make sure that I enough planned out because I just don’t know what may come up.

What did you do or are you planning for your Spring Break?

We did a cruise out of Florida to the Bahamas and Virgin Islands. It was wonderful! Next year my daughter will get an opportunity to go to Washington DC over spring break with her school. I plan on going with her (went with her brother a few years ago).

We didn’t do anything for Spring Break this year. Hopefully we’ll do something fun and exciting next year. 🙂
