A great way to lure readers to your blog is to promote through social media. Almost all major blogs rely on this medium. Of course, depending on the content of your blog, there are different strategies you should take. Here are some of the ways that your blog can benefit from social media and the steps that you should take to get it set up.
Choose the right social networks for you
Identify the target audience of your blog. Are you providing professional advice or entertainment? In almost every case, setting up a Facebook page and Twitter page is a good idea. Facebook will allow you to connect with your friends who may share the blog with their friends. Twitter lets you share your posts with complete strangers (make sure you’re hashtagging and following people back).
Other social networks may be more specific to the type of blog you run. Instagram is best suited for blogs that can provide visuals. If you’re a food blog – you can use this platform to share pictures of dishes and recipes. A platform like LinkedIn meanwhile may be more appropriate for business blogs, where you can network with other business owners who are most likely to read your blog.
Make your social media page busy and eye-catching
Turning readers into followers requires making your social media look buzzing, even if it isn’t. View it as an extension of your blog. Use a Twitter header maker to give your Twitter page that professional panache. When you are not posting blog posts, keep your social media active with other posts, providing images as often as you can (people love pretty pictures!). Don’t get too wordy with posts – this is what your blog is for after all. Twitter already has a word limit, but it’s possible to get carried away writing essays on Facebook, which won’t engage your followers.
Automate content sharing
Automate your blog with your Facebook and Twitter pages so that when you publish a post it will automatically post onto people’s newsfeeds. This will save you having to copy and paste the link and headline on social media every time after publishing. Some blog servers such as WordPress have their own automation function. Those not using WordPress can use a programme like Buffer.
Repost!
Don’t forget about those old blog posts! You can get people to re-read them or introduce them to new followers after by reposting them on your social media a couple months after. Similarly, if something you wrote about a year ago suddenly relates to current news, such as a product you reviewed being recalled or a musician you interviewed releasing a new album, share the old post and make the most of the hype. Some blogs may dedicate a day a week to reposting to old posts.
Follow other similar blogs
Make friends with other like-minded blogs on social media. Follow their pages and retweet their posts and they might follow or retweet back. In turn you will introduce your readers to their blog and they will introduce their readers to your blog.
