Learning to help your community is about bringing that community spirit! There are plenty of great ways for you to start bringing your community closer, whether it’s because you feel there are underrepresented aspects of the community or you feel that there’s been something severely lacking. Here are a few ideas to bring together a more inclusive community.
LGBTQ+ Events
Communities that have a major group of LGBTQ+ residents need events to help them be represented in their community. You can set up an all-day event and make it inclusive to absolutely everyone. The great thing about LGBTQ+ events like gay pride is that everybody is welcome so you can start to turn the tides of inequality and old-fashioned ways of thinking by making this a regular event. The more gay pride stickers and events on offer means people who subscribe to old-fashioned ways of thinking will either give in and join in with the fun or just sit at home like a grumpy individual anyway!
5K Runs
If you are concerned about the general health of your community or you want to convey a stronger message, a 5K run is a perfect opportunity to create a fun and engaging experience while also helping people become more aware of their individual health. You can do a 5K run for a local charity which can be the perfect opportunity to educate people about the importance of keeping healthy. There’s more concern than ever about people’s long-term health and a lack of exercise, so a 5K run can be a family-friendly community event you can hold every year to stimulate that sense of community spirit.
Outdoor Movie Screenings
This is another one that’s perfect during the summer months. Getting a neighborhood together to watch a classic movie is a fantastic opportunity to see everyone, and it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Conversely, if you are looking to set up a big event that brings people from all around the community, you may want to hire a theater company to do an outdoor performance. These are incredibly popular, but if you want to make it more community-focused, consider hiring the local amateur theater company to put on a show. This means that everybody can have a hand in contributing to the show and it feels a lot more exciting because there are people you know having their share of the limelight!
Craft Fairs
Craft fairs are fantastic for those people who have spent a long time with ideas at home but haven’t had the courage to sell them on Etsy yet! Similar to a yard sale, a craft fair can support local businesses and help the community come together. It’s the perfect platform for people to show off their creative ideas.
There are so many great events that you can run in your community, and these are just a handful. If you feel that your community is severely lacking in some ways, think about the right type of event that will bring everyone together.
