I know that I have told you about State Farm’s Celebrate My Drive in the past but I want to share a little information. Also I want to be sure that your school is registered for the awesome prizes that is available! This year they are awarding prizes to schools and communities for making safe driving commitments. We all know how important safe driving is and I can tell you that when I was a teen I had a hard time with it. I did and if I was honest I still do. My family will be the first to tell you that I am the world’s worst driver. I just get nervous!
I don’t want my children to be that way though and risky behaviors such as texting, not wearing a seat belt, or even riding with someone who has been drinking is higher among Hispanic teens. So I know now that I want all of my children to be aware that they are at a higher risk for a car accident. I also want them to be aware that car accidents are the number 1 cause of death for teens in North America. Can you imagine that? Not cancer, or heart disease, or even violence! I was sure one of those would be higher than car accidents! Celebrate My Drive wants to help with that by promoting 2N2®: 2 eyes on the road and 2 hands on the wheel. I think it is a great way to teach teens to drive!
I tell you one thing for as horrible a driver as I am my Tia is worst! She is the poster child for not using the phone while driving! So much so that I won’t allow my children in the car with her at any given time. She terrifies me and the couple of times in the past they had to ride with her she terrified my children as well. After riding with her I never have to worry about them texting and driving! They should make a simulator of her driving and make teens ride with her. They would think twice, because if her phone rings or she wants to call someone there is no telling where you will end up on the road. She once crossed into oncoming traffic heading straight for a semi. She doesn’t think she drives bad either, it is always someone else’s fault.
Celebrate My Drive and Win
You can check to see if your high school is registered for Celebrate My Drive by October 7, 2014. If your school is not registered then talk with your principle or administrator. Then your community and teens can commit to safe driving once a day, every day from October 15-24. The 100 high schools who generate the most safe-driving commitments during Oct. 15-24 will win grants and the top two schools will win concerts. The two grand prize winning schools will receive a private concert by a GRAMMY® Award nominee band. While the 100 high schools with the most online safe driving commitments will win a grant award of $25,000 or $100,000. Be sure to check out the Celebrate My Drive Facebook page and the Teen Driver Safety website as well.

Our school is not registered yet. I did leave the info though and signed up to get emails. Only thing with this contest is that bigger schools stand to win. you’d think they’d go by the PERCENTAGE of drivers they can get to commit. Then each of schools with the highest percentages would get their name in to pick at random. For example a school with 6000 students could get 94 % of all it’s drivers to commit and another school of only 600 students also could do this. They would both have the same chance to win. Seems unfair.
Our school is not registered yet. I am going to make sure and mention it to our school councilor and try to get us registered. It sounds like a great program.
