Christmas is over but for Latino families(and many Christians) the holiday season is not yet over. The holidays are over until after Día de Reyes which is Three Kings Day or Epiphany and is celebrated on January 6th. It is the day that marks the end of the twelve days of Christmas and the day the Magi arrived to see Jesus. So we celebrate by giving gifts!
In our home we give each child three gifts the same way that Jesus received three gifts. These are nothing large or extravagant. Just a little something to celebrate the season and what it means to all of us. I did my shopping for this day at JCPenney and actually went the day Christmas so I could get some great deals. It was a little chilly but I enjoyed the day, not to mention I waited until about 2:30 in the afternoon to go. I was able to pick up the gifts for each of the kids and not break the bank along the way. Like many Latino families we celebrate both Christmas and Día de Reyes so the kids get gifts twice which they love.
The JCPenney choir is made up of choir singers, boys and girls, who share the very real spirit that lives in Latino homes through stories of their multicultural families and how they experience holidays in the US in a celebration of real-life Holiday traditions. I am so pleased that JCPenney is the first retail brand to celebrate what a REAL holiday season for Latino is like through stories told by Latino children and their families in a series of short videos. It means so much to see a company think about our traditions during this wonderful time of the year.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I remember reading about Dia de Reyes on your blog last year. It’s such a great way to remember Jesus and the reverence with which these three kings paid Him. And it certainly doesn’t hurt to have another reason to exchange gifts! 🙂

I have not celebrated this holiday before. It seems worthy of celebrating though. I know the Hispanic culture has some great traditions and celebrations.

I think this is great that a big company is showing how other cultures celebrate their heritage and cultural traditions.
