Kids get very excited when it comes to New Year’s Eve. The appeal of the festive atmosphere and the idea of changing the date can make them downright silly. They want to celebrate with the grown-ups and stay up late. One way to help them feel important and join in the tradition is to let them have a little New Year’s Eve party. It might be a family-only event or a sleep-over with a few friends. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on decorations. Pick up some party supplies at a discount store to save money without skimping on fun. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Party Blowouts
New Year’s Eve isn’t New Year’s Eve without party blowouts and noisemakers. Let the kids pick out their favorite colors and make a little noise. It might be fun to watch them as they figure out that you have to actually blow through the tube to make them work.
Glow In the Dark
One of the latest trends in party favors is anything that glows in the dark. Bracelets, sticks and necklaces are just a few of the choices. Designate a room with a bright lamp that can be turned off at will. The room should be very dark to make the colors more noticeable — and more fun.
A Toast
Plastic champagne glasses are a great way to introduce a toast. Fill their glasses with grape juice or ginger ale. For kids that can’t stay up until midnight, designate an earlier time to ring in the new year. This is a lot easier if you’re on the West Coast, and they can celebrate on Eastern Time.
Decorations
If the kids are having friends over, decorating with streamers, and other party supplies balloons will add some fun to the atmosphere. Turn on the TV to watch the ball drop and make a toast.
