This was a recipe I shared with y’all back in 2018. It is still a favorite at our house and something I am eating for breakfast while on vacation. There is something about childhood favorites that makes me happy. I don’t know about y’all but oat meal is a favorite breakfast food around my home.
Growing up oatmeal was a huge part of our diet. With four kids to feed we didn’t get those fancy flavors in the packs. Nope, we got old-fashioned oatmeal that Ma would flavor up for us. This money-saving tip is something that I have kept with me though the years. Today I want to share a yummy Chocolate Banana Nut Oatmeal recipe with you.
Gather all your ingredients together. They are all listed all of them below in the recipe. One hint is if you are allergic to almonds you can certainly leave them out and substitute the almond milk.
Mashing the banana is something I would let the kids help with. It is easy and they can feel like they are doing an important job.
Combine everything EXCEPT the almonds, honey and chocolate chips in one pot. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring. Reduce heat if it starts to boil.
Take off the heat and add in the honey and almonds.
Add in chocolate chips and enjoy! This is a great and easy breakfast for the kids before school. Oatmeal is one of those stick with you meals. It fills you up and is good for you.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 whole banana (½ for oatmeal, ½ to top)
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1 Tbsp. honey
- 1 handful chocolate chips
Instructions
- Mash ½ banana
- In a pot, combine oats, almond milk, water, mashed banana and chia seeds.
- Cook over low-medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. If it starts to boil, reduce heat.
- Take off heat and add almonds and honey.
- After you serve in a bowl, add chocolate chips and swirl around so they melt a bit.
- Slice remaining banana and top with them and chocolate chips. Add more almonds if you’d like as well. Enjoy!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
