When you are a mom one of the most important things you can own is a safe car. The thing is what defines a safe car? There are reports and all sorts of other things that you can check out to get that sort of information. The last thing you want is to be driving around in a dangerous car and you may actually be surprised about which ones are actually dangerous cars.
That Jeep in the picture up there is actually listed as a dangerous car (if you click that little link above you will be able to check out a full list) but I have to say that I love riding in and driving one! Which actually sort of makes me a bad mother! While I going through the list I found that there was a small number of two and four door cars. Both only had five listed which surprised me and not because I thought all of those were safe I was just surprised by a couple of the cars on the list.
On the flip side another one of my favorites (see that pic) is actually on the safe list. I was thrilled to see it there and it is actually the only one on the list for the safest two door cars. Now I admit I am not sure what merits each vehicle had to have in order to get on the list but I can tell you that I will taking the fact that these are on there into account when I purchase my next car.
There are so many things that come into play when you are selecting a new car but the biggest thing is if the car is safe. That is true regardless of whether you are mom or not. As a mom though you never want to put your children at risk. Having a resource like the dangerous cars list really helps make those decisions a little easier.

It is so true about not driving a dangerous car. I drove a junky car for 5 years and worried every day that something terrible was going to happen. I am so glad that I finally got a safer car. I am glad there is a resource like the dangerous car site to help me.

I drove a crappy car as well so I know how you felt.

wow this list is amazing both deadliest and safest. I’m never getting another car until I find a list like this. I don’t want to just go by crash test results. One thing that I am aware of, that I had read an article about, is to be careful about lightweight cars, in that if you are hit by a large heavy car, it is very deadly, that they are making many of the largest pickups much heavier than decades ago, and it is contributing to fatalities in the small cars, that is common sense, but when you are out shopping it is easy to want a small economical car. Many fatal accidents happen not on the highway but close to home.

The list of dangerous cars has some that I am surprised are on the list considering the makers have had excellent ratings for most of their other cars. Good post!

Seeing that jeep reminded me of my Aunt who years back had one and they were in an accident with it. She was thrown from it as all doors popped but she is alive. She was pregnant and had many broken bones in her shoulder but her and her son were fine.

When my daughter bought her first car she was determined to buy an old used Volvo. She did, and that car saved her life. I’m a big believer in choosing a car based on its safety ratings.

Thanks for linking to the dangerous cars list. Some of the cars I would not have thought would be on there, like the Honda Accord!

I think it’s such a trade off now compared to older vehicles of the past. The safety features have been so improved but the vehicle composition is so cheap and light now, that I think many vehicles are not safe due to this. Especially when in winter driving. yes, it helps to have lighter and more aerodynamic cars for better gas mileage, but if I have to choose between money or safety, I’d pick safety.
WE just went to a mid size car after having full size trucks and vans for the past 17 years. I feel so low to the ground and unprotected. Our teens still drive an old truck, and feel that is safer.
