Christmas Songs + Holly Jolly Giveaway Hop

It’s the first of December! That means I am cranking up the Christmas music in the house. I try to wait until now so I don’t drive the family crazy with it. I love listening to it and thought I would share with you which ones are my favorites along with a giveaway. Of course I must first thank MamatheFox for hosting the hop.

  1. Oh Holy Night

This is my top favorite song of all time. Mostly because it was played repeatedly in my home when I was growing up. It was my father’s favorite carol, so I always think of him when I hear it. It reminds me of him singing along in his deep voice. It is very comforting to me. There are plenty different versions of this song that I love hearing but this Andre Bocelli one in French is one of my favorites. My father would sign it in both English and French so this makes the holidays perfect for me.

  1. Carol of the Bells

I sang this one in the choir during high school. I love it because of all the different parts. It can be done without any other music just your voice. I sang first soprano, so I typically was one of the higher voices heard during the song. The song itself is simple but each part must be played or sang precisely to ensure it sounds like the bells are playing.

  1. Angels We Have Heard on High

I remember being small and hearing this sang in church. I loved listening to it. I have no idea why but there was just something about the way the choir sang it. I remember when I was about three I told my father I was going to be up there signing that song one day. It took a few more years before I was there but I did it. I remember him sitting in the pew smiling at me.

  1. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

This one was on a video we had of Christmas Carols when I was younger. It was one of those that you could sing along with because the words were scrolled across the screen. We watched it every year while we were putting up the Christmas tree. I can still picture the young girls coming into the room on the video as they sang.

  1. In the Bleak Midwinter

This one isn’t a mainstream song. Some of you may have never even heard of it. It was also one of the first piano pieces I ever learned to play. That may have something to do with why I loved it. I remember slaving over the piece until I could not only play it beginning to end but also sing it.

I wouldn’t stop until it was perfect in my eyes. I can now play it without any sheet music and with my eyes closed. The stubborn determination of a child. If only I had that much strong will now.

  11. My favorite Christmas song is probably Carol of the Bells, but Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas is a very close second.

    • I don’t have a favorite Christmas song. Working in retail ruins Christmas music because you have to hear it so much.

  29. My favorite Christmas song hands down is The Little Drummer Boy but it makes me cry every single time I hear it.

  32. I love Bing Crosby’s White Christmas. There is something timeless and enchanting about it.

  36. I’ve always loved Silent Night. I guess I don’t really know if it’s a Christmas song, but I love it anyway. I also use it as one. God bless and Happy Holidays everyone!

  46. Silver Bells and I’ll be Home for Christmas. The last one makes me cry every time. They were my grandparents favorites.

  68. My fave Christmas Carol is Holy Night too! I also love all of Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey’s Christmas songs. They’re so good!

  74. My favourite Christmas song is The Little Drummer Boy/ Peace on Earth by David Bowie & Bing Crosby.

  84. “Silent Night” is my favorite Christmas song. I’ve always liked it because it sounds so peaceful. I like the older Christmas songs more than the more modern, pop music type stuff.

  96. Most Christmas songs make me cry (I don’t know why?). But the one that doesn’t is Frosty the Snowman.

  108. I love “Mary did you Know”. I think it is a beautiful song. I pretty much LOVE all Christmas music. I really like the traditional songs. Things that I can sing along to.

  112. My favorite is Silent Night and on the lighter side Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. 🙂

  127. I hate to admit it, but I am not a super huge fan of Christmas music. That is probably though for the years that I have had a very difficult time getting into the spirit. I do like “All I wants for Christmas, is you”, promise (haha)

  137. I like Jingle Bells because it is fun to sing along. I like O Holy Night because it is so beautiful.

  140. I think I love White Christmas the best. By Bing Crosby. It is just a classic that makes me think of Christmas-time and great memories.

  165. I agree O Holy Night is my favorite. Over 50 years ago our high school French class learned it and I still sing it in French (when no one is around). I was able to sing right along with Andrea Bocelli.
