The kids love these and I must admit that I enjoy them from time to time as well.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- Peel of 1/2 lemon
- Fat for deep-fat frying
- Granulated sugar or powdered sugar
Instructions
- In saucepan bring water, sugar, and salt to boiling.
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in flour all at once and beat till smooth.
- Beat in eggs one at a time until mixture is smooth.
- Spoon batter into pastry bag fitted with large star point.
- Pipe 3-inch strips onto waxed paper or floured surface.
- Add lemon peel to deep fat and heat to 375°.
- Fry churros, a few at a time, for 3 to 4 minutes or until golden brown, turning as necessary.
- Drain on paper toweling.
- Roll in granulated sugar or powdered sugar.

I had no ideal churros had lemon peel, I love anything with lemon may have to give these a try.
These look intriguing – don’t know what Churros are actually. But by the recipe I am assuming a dessert – type cookie batter. I have a son that likes to try new thinks, so having said that. This will be our menu item this weekend. TY
They are a dessert. they are pretty good..imagine a sugar donut that looks like a stick.
Wow–so much easier than I thought! It might be easy to tweek the flavor with a bit of flavored extracts.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE churros! at the local latin market there is a churro cart they make them fresh when you order you get 12 for $2 can’t beat it. now that i have the recipe i will be making them at home. thanks!

These take me back to my days of youth, in California. At nearly every event we went to, churros were being sold by a cart vendor. I really want to make these, but I’m vegetarian and the “deep-fat frying” doesn’t sound vegetarian. Can you recommend a vegetarian option, such as a vegetable-based oil or something? Thanks!

Oh my gosh! Churros are a delight! In my country, we put arequipe or guava compote within churros!!
Why are you doing this to us?! lol I would not be able to stop at just one, I LOVE churros but can’t remember when I last made one but your recipe sounds so simple that I’ve booked mark it for later…. when I have people coming over so I don’t go crazy 😉
