Packing for college can be an emotional experience. College students already know that they need a laptop along with regular school supplies such as notebooks, highlighters and pens. Still, there are other items students should add to their lists in order to enhance the college experience.
One piece of technology many students might not expect to bring is a printer. The printer should be simple and small, without the bells and whistles. This will beat having to take a trip to the library every time you have something to turn in. This will especially come in handy during mid-term and finals weeks.
Many students choose to bike around campus, especially on campuses like University of California in Santa Barbara. For many students, it is the primary mode of transportation. Buying a bike might be a great investment for students who do not want to bring cars. In addition, students should bring extra clothes for the gym and running shoes. You should also bring along an iPod or other mp3 player so you have some music to listen to between classes and on the go.
While it is likely you already have a cell phone, many college students find smart phones to be highly necessary. There are quite a few apps that can enhance your college experience. Several apps allow you to purchase and read textbooks on your phone. There is no need to lug a textbook halfway around campus. These ebooks are also more affordable than their physical counterparts because you can buy one chapter at a time. There are also several fitness apps you can use to track activities, calories and weight loss goals. Students taking language classes can use multi-language dictionary apps.
Make sure you bring things that will make your room feel like home. You should bring a few personal reminders from home, including posters, a blanket and a couple pictures from home. The room should feel as if it belongs to you for you to feel comfortable. You might even want to bring along a couple fold-up chairs and a bean bag for guests.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

Ah, I remember packing for university. Wish I had researched it a bit more, there were many things I didn’t realize I needed until after I got there.

Luckily most students I know stay instate for college so bringing extra things back from home isn’t too tough. I would have to add if they are off campus and need furniture, there are plenty who use thrift stores and then redonate when they are done.
