If you are in the process of preparing your home for winter then you might be wanting to make some changes. It can be easier to carry out home renovations in winter before the colder months hit. Some of these renovations will mean the difference between high and low energy bills. Make sure you work out your budget before you start renovations as you don’t want to run out of money before everything is complete. Check out the article below to see if you can get any ideas and renovation inspiration.
Boiler Maintenance
When winter hits your boiler will be working harder than it had to over the summer. It is common for boilers to break down when the heating is being used. If you arrange for a boiler service at least once a year before winter then your boiler will make it through another year. However, if you don’t get this service then something could go wrong with it. Boilers can be a bit of a health hazard if you don’t look after it. Make sure you are using gas safety engineers as they know what they are doing, do your research and find someone who is capable and competent.
New Flooring
Over time your flooring can become worn down and be calling out for some TLC. If you have hardwood flooring then you can notice the cold a little more during winter. This is due to hardwood flooring not being able to retain heat like carpet can. If you are fed up with constantly feeling cold in your home then swap out your hardwood for carpet. Make sure you invest in a good quality thick carpet, as well as the best underlay that fits into your budget. If you don’t want to lay the carpet yourself then you could speak to a flooring expert and enquire how much this will cost for them to lay it.
Paint The Walls
If you want your home to look nice for the winter period then it is important you look after your walls. You might start to notice that your walls are looking grubby and are in need of some love. If you want the same color on your walls then you can simply paint over the existing job, however if you want a different color then you will need to apply a primer beforehand. Alternatively, you might be looking at wallpaper to put up rather than paint. If you don’t want to strip the paint first then you need to make sure the wall is smooth. A handyman will be able to either paint your walls or hang wallpaper, whichever you prefer.
HVAC Repair
With winter approaching you may be using your heating a lot more than usual. If this isn’t working as it should then it can either make your home feel really cold, really hot, or send your bills sky high. You will need to get this fixed as soon as possible so you don’t struggle and suffer through winter. If you live in a particularly cold place then winters can be incredibly harsh. Contact your local HVAC repair company to discuss prices and quotes for maintenance and repairs. There may be a bit of a waiting list, especially for a good company so make the enquiry sooner rather than later.
