My Thoughts:
I found this book really great. For someone, like me, who has been out of school for a number of years (I won’t say how many) then this is a wonderful refresher. I really enjoyed the sections on modern technology because I happen to be the world’s worst texter. I swear I am! Hubby will text me and use some of the common slang and I am like “What?” This book was so helpful I think I am going to start using it in my homeschool lessons because the sections on Communicating Across Cultures and The Part of Tens is so helpful. I think that the kids will gain a lot from it. The Part of Tens gives you ten essential tips for speaking face to face which I think everyone needs. The Communicating Across Cultures will help them learn what I already try to teach them everyday and that is to accept cultural differences. As with all of their other books, For Dummies books delivers another winner for easy to read and understanding a topic!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I have a degree in Communications but love to find resources related to my degree. I love Dummies’ books anyway – this one sounds like one for my bookshelf at work. Thanks for the review.

As someone who works in the eLearning industry, I can attest to the fact that Communication skills are in high demand and low in supply. A good deal of course usage is around this very topic.

Communication skills are very much important in any degree. I do notice that with more technology, communication is lapsing. More and more people rely on auto-correct/spellchecker and use acronyms or text-ese to speak and write more often. True communication skills are becoming very scarce. It just makes me laugh out loud when I hear someone literally say, “L-O-L” out loud during a conversation.
Thanks for the Dummies books. I do love a good Dummies book. Once I purchase a book called “GRE for Dummies.” Kind of ironic, since the GRE is an entrance examination for graduate school. It helped me pass, however, so I can’t complain. 🙂

This sounds like a great book and I know a lot of people that could read it. Communication is so important and seems to get lost sometimes.

I didn’t realize that the creators of the “for Dummies” books wrote books on things like this! But I can surely use a f=refresher course myself… and I know a few people who could use it too! lol cough cough Husband Cough cough 😉

I need to get this book for my son. I need to highlite the section on active listening. He is one of those people that assumes he knows what you are going to say and will interrupt you. He doesn’t do it to other people only us at home. He may have a case of selective hearing. 🙂
