I spent a lot of time at doctors when I was younger for some of my quirks (OCD among them) and it worried my parents. I think we went to a dozen different doctors who told my parents to do everything from just ignore it to I would grow out of it to spank me until I stopped. Finally we saw a doctor who said “There is nothing wrong with your daughter, she simply talks to herself.” What we discovered is that my talking to myself actually served a purpose for me. When I have a problem to work out I will talk it out with myself because hearing it out loud can help makes things clear. I talk to myself in the grocery store because as I am on one aisle I am telling myself the items I need from the next aisle. It helps me remember things even though I have a list.
I will admit though there are times when I feel a little like Sheldon! I’m not crazy but you would not believe the looks I get from people. So if you see me out and about talking to myself please don’t judge! I could be solving world problems or just trying not to forget the milk!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I admit I do the same. Talking to yourself isnt a bad thing as you said, sometimes hearing it aloud will help you when you have to say it aloud later. Heck I repeat things to myself so I remember them. I dont do it loud mind you but I do it.
I think its when you YELL at yourself you might want to consider something going on.

I “might” have yelled at myself a time or two. For me it is just naturally.

I *might* have yelled at myself a time or two, too! LOL! Seriously, I got through college by saying things out loud to myself while studying—I studied better at home than at the library 😀

Well, I will admit that I sometimes talk to myself also. I agree that it can help solve inner struggles. When I’m caught doing it, I often say, “All sane people talk to themselves!”

I say that too or “Eisenstein talked to himself!”

Nothing wrong with talking to yourself sometimes hearing things out loud makes us better understand what we are going through

This is so funny! I have had some of those looks myself! I talk to myself all the time. Repeating things out lout helps to set them in my mind. My kids laugh about it and call it one of my quirks that has gotten worse with my Fibromyalgia. They call it Fibro Fog. I don’t care what anyone thinks. I will be talking to myself for years to come. Nice to know I will have company. 🙂

My Mother talks to her self but she always wants someone to answer back which can be confusing.
