Many of you already know that we redid our house outside over the summer. It was a nightmare of project. However the one area we didn’t get done was the back porch. That is where the awesome folks over at Daich Coatings come in. They were wonderful enough to work with us and get the porch on par with the house.
However, we did have some prep work to get done before we could get started. That picture above is how our porch looked. As you can see it is a standard concrete pad. One that has seen many, many years. Plenty of storms, things dropped, tornado or two, even a hurricane. It has withstood all sorts of wear and tear from us in the almost twenty years we have lived here. Oh my goodness, I just realized we have lived here for almost twenty years!
When we redid the house we knew we wanted to do something about the porch. We took down chicken wire or pig wire. There was some sort of horrible wire there. Wire that I hated from the day we moved in. Wire that was on the honey do list my entire marriage.
Well, no worries this gal is killing that old list this year. Don’t worry the ducks were relocated back to their proper home. They wondered up as I was taking pictures that day. As you can see in the above picture, the porch looked bad. Like I said, it’s just years of wear and tear.
Daich Coatings
Daich Coatings agreed to send us the product to make that porch new again. First though we had to select the color we wanted. So they sent us some samples. We were so excited when they came and couldn’t wait to go through each one.
After opening each bag, I realized they were the same so I took one bag and laid each of the little squares on the porch. I put them close to the house so we could see how each color could work with the porch itself. As you can tell some colors just would not work. They were far too bold.
We narrowed our color choices down to five. They were the ones that we liked the most and there was a lot of debate. The white and pinkish color we decided was just too light. They would show far too much dirt. Also one one of the grays was the same shade as the house.
We narrowed those five down to three. I put the white back in because it did have a little gray in there and I wanted to give it a chance. Each of us adults (although the kids had plenty to say and lets just says that Maggie was real upset her color wasn’t selected!) talked through what we liked, what we didn’t, and what we were hoping for.
Drum roll please..
We decided the darker gray would be perfect for the everyday use that our porch gets. It would hide some of the mess that our porch is in its current state. It was a timeless shade that I felt belonged in our lives. So just what is this color called?
It’s RollerRock® Coating Lava Rock! Doesn’t that sound exotic? I can’t wait to share more with you about the entire process later this week. I have so many pictures and I know that y’all are going to flip over the difference this product made on our porch. Plus I have a giveaway for you. So keep watching for it.
What do you think of the color we selected? Would you have chosen a different one? Let us know in the comments below.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
