Have any of you though about redecorating or the design of your home in the new year? Mine needs an update and while I do little things here and there I know that I done a few things but it isn’t enough. I was reading an article on interior design trends for 2017 and there are a few things that learned.
The first being that men are the ones who are more concerned with the brand name. For women, we are all about the cost. I can see that because I know that when I was married we purchased more brand name items. When I say we I mean he did. I like knowing that I am not just getting a brand name but the best value for my money.
Another thing I learned and can relate to is that most people prefer neutrals. I’m all for neutrals on my walls because they I don’t have to worry about a color I use in the room to clashing with the walls. I can be as bold or as pastel-ish as I want if my walls are neutral. I don’t want stark white walls either. Other than in my office where I want white with purple furniture. My parents home had a creamy color to the walls. The color was called champagne and it was beautiful. Not too white but not a tan either.
The article gave me some great insight but now I need to figure out what it is I am going to do. The problem for me is that you can only do some much with paneled walls. They are awful and I want to rip them down! I mean there is brown everywhere and not in the good way. The good way of course, being like a log cabin. I also have crappy windows and a fireplace that doesn’t work.

I went with grays as my neutral wall color this time. I like it. Most of my things are already golds/taupes/coppers but I can change out things like throw pillows for bright colors. BTW—you can paint the paneling….but it probably takes a primer.

I would love to update my homes look! All of my walls are neutral too.

My Grandparents always painted the walls off-white or eggshell white. They said it made the inside look bigger and I have to concur with them. They’ve been gone to the other side for several decades now, but their wisdom holds true today as much as it did then. They bought & sold houses, moving all thru my Mother’s childhood & teen years, and then thru-out mine. The good part about having neutral walls is you can have bold colored accents & when you tire of them then you can change them out. Much easier than repainting!
As for paneled walls there’s not a lot you can do with them. Paint them, wallpaper them, tear them down are about the only options. It just depends on how much energy you have to do the job yourself or if you have funds to pay someone to do it for you. And if you tear them down you have to be prepared to drywall if there isn’t any already there.

I’ve definitely gravitated towards earth tones lately and also enjoy the neutrals to offset t he contents of a room.

I need to furniture. My couch is shot and so uncomfortable. I like neutrals too in my house, but I have seen some bold colors in magazines, but I am too afraid to go red on the walls or blue.

Oh I have so many things I would love to update! Painting is the next thing on our list I think! I love the light neutral colors too! I love how you can change the whole room with what other colors you add to it!

I like neutral on the walls, although I tend to like warmer neutral, right now a cream with a little yellow in it. LIke you, I jazz up with color in accessories, easy to change color schemes if you want to!

I know what you mean. Ours does too. We are in the process of remodeling the master bath and want to replace the flooring in the kitchen.

We’re planning to move in a few months, and I can’t wait to set things up the way we want them! The house we’ve been renting has white walls, everywhere, in every room. I am so sick of white walls! And our lease said we couldn’t hang things on the walls, so all of our artwork has been stored away. Honestly, I don’t really care what color the walls are, as long as they’re not all white and I can hang things up!

I’m a big neutral fan also. I’ve been toying with doing our bedroom in grey. We have had blue for many years and I’m tired of it.

I guess I’m in the 11%, lately I’ve had a real thing for pastel blues and white.
