As you all know we live in the woods and don’t really have a lot of neighbors. We also live within a few miles of a State Prison and didn’t have a home security system for a while when we first moved in. The truth is it never really crossed our minds. We had one in our old house and there was always an issue with it (mostly me setting it off by forgetting it was on and opening the door) so we didn’t want the same hassle.
One night we were laying bed about a year or so after moving here and I heard something I didn’t think much about it because it could have been a tree limb. Then I heard the dreaded words coming from the other side of the bed “Did you hear something?” I wanted to know but instead said “Yes, go look.” Edgar of course went and checked what it was but I can tell you in the three minutes he was gone I almost died. All of the what ifs that passed through my mind were enough to stop my heart.
I kept thinking How long will it take me to run to where the kids are? I mean I have to run through the living room and would I get hurt before I got there? Not to mention the fact that I can’t even play hide and go seek without laughing how was I ever going to protect myself and my family? It turns out the noise was nothing but a bobcat outside. However, the next day I began checking out home security systems.
The peace of mind that I get from knowing that my house is protected is more than enough for me. I no longer worry about how am going to get tot he other side of the house because the kids know. If that alarm goes off, they know just what they are to do. They know where to go and where we will meet them at. They also know not to come towards the living room or our room for any reason. to go to our pre-planned spot and wait for help.

We have one in our house but we live in the suburbs with tons of neighbors – the opposite of you sometimes I wonder if its a waste of money

I live in a pretty busy neighborhood. I used to have an alarm system, but got rid of it.

Alarm systems can give you peace of mind. The challenge is the monthly cost that you incur. In a way, it’s like any kind of insurance, in that it’s great when you need it, but costly when you don’t.

We have talked about getting a home security system. It just has been in the cards for us right now. I would love the peace of mind it would give me. Thanks for sharing.
