Some of you may remember that last year I redid the backsplash in my kitchen. It was nasty looking and I was able to make it look beautiful again (as you can see above.) I was very surprised that I could do all of that all by myself but I did. I found the kit on the DIY Network and could not be happier with it, of course they have so many ideas that I am forever over there looking for new inspiration. If you check out my Pinterest boards you will see all of the things that I want to do.
Notice I said inspiration and not stuff to do. While I love finding projects I don’t always start them right away, in fact, it can sometimes take me a long time to get started. There is so much that really needs to be done to our house. I can’t help that I put it off and to be honest the little bit of savings we have has to been saved for the big stuff. You know like putting in a new septic system which is something that we just had to have done. It was a nightmare but thank goodness we had the money to get it done.
Another place that I find inspiration for my home repairs is This Old House. I know what you are thinking but I grew up watching this show and I actually learned how to install a toilet thanks to this show. My dad always told me that I would need to know how to take care of things myself so I whenever I need an answer I head over there first and begin looking around. You would be surprised the repairs that you can do yourself if you first stop putting them off and second take a little time to learn how to do it.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

If only my house resembled my pinterest board a bit more! I’m a little hesitant to DIY, though with each project I’m gaining more confidence in myself.

I’m a This Old House die-hard, so I know how you feel Rita! I remember weekend mornings as a kid, watching This Old House with my Papi & Uncle, hearing the back-and-forth as they’d talk & watch the show. To this day that show always teaches me something new & has been a life saver. As a newly single/widowed Mom I need all the knowledge I can get.

It came out nice, Rita! I’m not good at fixing things. I recall when I needed to put up drapery hardware, the quotes I got were so outrageous that I bought a drill. I was so proud of my handiwork I was dangerous with that drill, I was going to put a hole in anything just cause I felt so empowered!

I do have to say that I can not stand doing home repairs. My sister helps me with this, and we have done some nice things to my house, but home repair is costly and takes some time. But, I should say that after I get something remodeled that I think it looks really nice.

I want to install a backsplash! Like you, I look for inspiration, then jump in when I’m ready—sometimes that takes a while.

I would LOVE to freshen up my kitchen. It’s OK but kind of plain, especially compared with our redone bathrooms! Nice job on the backsplash! I am actually handier than my husband, but maybe I can convince him to try a backsplash for our kitchen. It really dresses things up!

I just love fixing things up! It gives me such a sense of satisfaction when I’m done.

I have to say I am super lucky. My husband is very handy around the house. He keeps up on the maintenance of the house so we don’t have a lot of repairs come up that he can’t do. As far as DIY projects he is great at those also. So if I see something I want to try, I just show it to him and he helps me out.

I love backsplashes! We have one by our stove too and have been meaning to add a matching one behind our sink. Yours is so lovely too, the choice of colors is really fun. I have to say I’m a lot like you in that this is going on my inspiration & to-do list to hopefully get done… well, sometime. lol!
