DIY Network Backsplash Kit

Dec 15, 2012 | Rita

I love watching the DIY Network because there is always something so amazing on there. I love watching the shows that show you how to turn your home into something beautiful. Not to long ago I saw the Backsplash Kit and thought I would love to try it out. A couple emails later and they were sending me a kit.

Backsplash Before

I thought I would redo the backsplash behind my stove because as you can see from above, it was really nasty looking. I cleaned it every other day but nothing I ever did made it look good at all. I knew that I didn’t want to go all the down the wall with the new tile and wanted a look that would compliment the paneled walls that my home has. All I needed to do was figure out which color I wanted since the kit comes in Amazon Tile, Rose, Bamboo Tile, Blue Moon, and Harvest Blend.

DIY Backsplash Kit

I chose the Harvest Blend because it went well with the walls. The kit contains everything you need to complete your job except for a silicone caulk which is used to waterproof the job when you are finished. I laid everything out and then read the instructions. Everything honestly is pretty straight forward and easy. All you do is measure, peel the back of the tile sheets, press it into the wall where you want it, then grout, and clean.

The entire process took me about an hour but that is because I spent a good 20 minutes getting the grout out of my hair. A few tips I learned about grouting though is that the grout comes in bags and you are suppose to cut off the end and squeeze it on the square trowel thing. Well this is super messy and works much better if you have like a paper plate that you can squeeze it out onto and then pick it up with your tool. The other thing is the kit comes with a sponge but since I have really small hands the large sponge made too much of a mess when wet so I cut the sponge to work for me. I also use a lightly damp wash cloth after I used the sponge just to ensure I got it all off.

Finished DIY Backsplash

As you can see my backsplash looks really good. Especially considering it was the first time I had ever used any tile or grout before in my life. The DIY Network Backsplash Kit was easy to use and gave my kitchen a complete new look without really any effort.

That’s beautiful!!! I’m moving next month and definitely picking one of these out because I have the same problem the back of my stove no matter how hard I scrub just looks nasty

I’m looking at options to do mine.. I’ve also been looking at the Mosaik Smart Tile.
Do you mind telling me if you had to take down the old back splash or if this went on on top of it?
    How is it holding up?

I did not take down the old backsplash but mine was a flat surface. It is holding up wonderfully, I could not be happier with it.

How was your tiles after more than 2 years now? Did it come off? I really wanted to do mine but still hesitant to do it.

They are still looking great and going strong. I used a very damp sponge to keep it clean. They look just as beautiful as the day I put them up.
