Wedding season is fast approaching as is the movie, The Big Wedding, so I though I would share a few of my DIY Wedding Favor Ideas. First let me tell you a little about the movie though:
With an all-star cast led by Robert DeNiro, Katherine Heigl, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Topher Grace, with Susan Sarandon and Robin Williams, THE BIG WEDDING is an uproarious romantic comedy about a charmingly modern family trying to survive a weekend wedding celebration that has the potential to become a full blown family fiasco. To the amusement of their adult children and friends, long divorced couple Don and Ellie Griffin (De Niro and Keaton) are once again forced to play the happy couple for the sake of their adopted son’s wedding after his ultra conservative biological mother unexpectedly decides to fly halfway across the world to attend. With all of the wedding guests looking on, the Griffins are hilariously forced to confront their past, present and future – and hopefully avoid killing each other in the process. Screenplay by Justin Zackham. Directed by Justin Zackham.
So what can you do to make your day or your daughters day dazzling without breaking the back. First think outside of the box. Some of the best favors I have seen lately were simply but different. Here are a couple that I like:
Candy Bar: Simply fill glass jars with all your favorite candies. You could do just candy that is in your colors. Put little scoops into the jars and then have small favor boxes or jars for the guests to fill. They get something sweet and you don’t have to spend hours putting together favors.
Maracas: You know those little shakers that you at the Mexican restaurant? You can get them inexpensively and give a set to the guests. Tie a little card that says “Shake for a kiss” Every time you hear them shaking the maracas you and your groom have to kiss.

What are your ideas for wedding favors?
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

We had heart shaped cookie cutters with a sugar cookie recipe. Gives meaning to a “sweetheart.”

How about seed packets to plan flowers. This sounds like a movie I would like to see this is the first time I’ve heard of it.
Patricia says
Sounds like a cute movie. I love the candy idea. I have also seen ringing of bells instead of the maracas.

Sounds like a fantastic movie! one I would love! I am a total DIY-er I love the Candy Bar Idea! the last wedding I went to was last summer (all out-doors) and for the favors the had the cutest little flip-flop bottle openers! I also like the idea of doing something like Cookie cutters, measuring spoons, etc!

I like the maracas idea, it has an added symbol to the ceremony and can be used as token to guests.

My wife and I are all about DIY. Our wedding was very DIY, but it took a lot of time and effort from our friends and family. We had a ton of support and it was very helpful!

This move sounds great. I can’t wait to see it. I love DIY wedding items. It just shows a little personal touch. The Candy Jar is a great idea.

One of my friends gave out mix CD’s at her wedding…now that I think about it though, it probably is illegal!

The maracas idea makes me laugh because I can imagine that getting really out of control! The candy bar idea is really clever! Like kids at a candy store! I bet that idea could fall right into a theme of sorts.
This movie looks very funny, just like other movies with Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams in the cast. I’ll look forward to watching it!

We did the “candy bar” at our wedding!

I am also looking forward to seeing this movie!
our daughter is getting married next year and just looking for favors. I like the maracas idea! She is doing a beach theme with Jamaican flair. Much better than clinking on a glass!
We have gone to two weddings with a “candy bar”. I thought the kids would be crazy over it but the adults loved it just as much. They had the jars and scoops but had little treat bags with ties to use to keep them closed and fresh.

Love the ideas… my friend did the maracas at her wedding about 10 years back. I did 2 favors.. I made little candles with our name and date on it and my mom made homemade mints.
