That is a question that I have been asking myself for a while. Why you might ask? Mostly because my work life has begun to take over the house in a way that is a little crazy. I don’t mean an office for the blogging that I do. I can do that from anywhere and I love it. However, all for the other work that I do that requires filing cabinets and other office equipment is no longer viable in my home. I either need to build an office at the house or get an office town.
Having a separate office (even if it is just a small building in the back yard) could also have the benefit of helping me be more productive. I can set hours without having everyone in the house disrupt me. Of course, this isn’t anything that I will be doing in the next few months but possibly within the next year or two.
Of course I am talking about something much smaller than what you see in the picture above. I live in a really small town so if I bought a place in town it would most likely, be an old store. That would mean I would have to change things up to suit my needs. I could always use a company like https://www.bciworldwide.com to handle all of my installation and furniture I suppose.
Of course I would have to hire a decorator to make things look nice. If I was going the office in the backyard I could do my farmhouse style that I want so badly. I have a little guest cottage/office all planned out with the office furniture sets that I need. You know for when I have enough money to do that although I am now seriously thinking about taking a mortgage to get it done.
For me I need to weigh the pros and the cons. The biggest pro is being able to shut out the family for a few hours. That sounds mean but when you work from home you get interrupted a lot. The adults I can usually tell I am busy. With the kids it gets harder. There are a couple of hours every day that I need to just work and get things done. Then I can get to the fun stuff like working on the blogs. An office would allow that for me. It would also give me a place to set up a small studio place for my photography.
My brother said that I need to find a geotab reseller but that is just him being crazy. He wants new trucks and figures he can get me to pay for them. I can’t even imagine what I would need a truck for in my line of work unless it was to pick up parts for him. If that was the case I would just use his vehicle cause I’m nice like that.
Making the decision to have an office building is not an easy one. There are many things to consider.

What I need (and want) is an airy space for my desk with space to do photos, a storage space, half bath and kitchenette. If I decide that I want to combine it with a guest cottage then I will make the bathroom a full. Some just little space that is uniquely mine. I know that sounds harsh but when you live in a home full of other people lines gets crossed so much that you don’t know where your style and theirs begin or end.

I would say to keep expenses at a minimum unless you have to hire more employees, then expand to an office.
