You can have the most beautifully decorated room and still find it a little dull, if it’s two-dimensional. Understand that toys all over the floor do not create depth. These things make the room cluttered, not three-dimensional. Creating depth is a lot easier than you might think though. A few minor tweaks can completely change the look and feel of a room.
Slate
As you probably know, slate is one of the most popular materials used by interior decorators and designers. The natural patterns in the material are formed over many years and no two pieces are identical. If you are looking to make a change in your kitchen or bathroom then obviously, slate would be the ideal material to use for your counters. A slate fountain is the perfect addition to a living room or bedroom. You can browse slate wall fountains online at websites like LuxeWaterWalls.com.
Textiles
Are the textiles in your room fairly consistent? A little variation will go a long way. A furry rug, bamboo throw blanket, and a few velvet pillows sure will bring texture to the room. Some people are still under the impression that every pillow on a sofa has to match. It is better if they don’t!
Paint
There is a reason why you constantly see accent walls in interior decorating magazines and on design shows. An accent wall totally changes the look of a room. You do not have to stick with only painting one wall either. Maybe you want to paint the trim a bold color instead. You could also sponge paint a wall with a few colors. Pin-striping is another great option.
Rugs
You don’t have to stick with only one rug in a living room. If you are like many others you have one under the coffee table because you assume this is where it is supposed to go. Why not layer a few rugs for a unique display?
Lighting
Believe it or not, lighting can help create depth in your space, too. Track lighting can be pointed in different directions to highlight specific elements. This is an easy way to ensure the depth isn’t lost in the dark.
Plants
You really can’t ever have too many plants in a space. Just make sure that if you have plants placed on the floor that you do not choose any that are poisonous.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

These are some really great tips. Did you ever take a class in design? I like to use mirrors and open curtains to try to “enlarge” the space. My house is very small. It’s amazing what different lighting and some plants can do to a room. I’ll have to try out the rug idea. That’s a good one.
