The holiday season is pretty much in full swing. soon the kids will be out for fall break and then Christmas break. So what are you planning on doing with them? While we do all of the fun things like going to see the lights and wrapping presents we also attempt to things that will enrich them in some way. It is not always easy to find things that will do that especially when you have older children who will see right through your tactics.
They always see through my tactics but I still try. I do have a few things though that we do which they love.
MUSIC
In our home music is a big deal. I know that I have shared that I can sing but I don’t know if I told y’all I can also play the piano, the flute, and the guitar. I wanted to learn the violin but I never had the chance. The piano is something I picked up when I was eight. I had a friend who lived down the road and she taught me. She was older and could play. I let the kids play whatever instrument they want because music is important. I have to drive the kids to classes and recitals and I made sure that I did my research. They actually go to a music conservatory similar to https://ocom.ca/ and they love it.
GO TO THE LIBRARY
The one is so easy! I go to the library a few times a month. When there is no school we go a little more often. I could spend hours in the library and I am grateful that the kids feel the same way. Typically on library day we just decide how long we will be in there and then everyone does their own thing. Well, sort of. We select a table and then go find our books together. I won’t let them out of my sight, at least not the younger ones. We spend whatever time reading, maybe going to story hour or whatever. I don’t censure the books they read much. I make sure it is age/skill appropriate but that is pretty much all. My parents never did that to me and because of it I have so many books, had so many adventures.
CLASSIC MOVIES
During the holidays I pull out my collection of classic movies. Yes, some of them where made in the last decade or so but I love them. I love sharing them with the kids and spending a little time together. Time together is so important to me. I want them to know that no matter how hard I worked I always had time for them.
FUNDRAISING
We are really big into fundraising and charity. Finding the right fundraiser can be difficult. I have even managed a few fundraisers here myself. I want the kids to know how important it is to help out your fellow person. Regardless of who or what they are everyone deserves our compassion. It is something that was instilled in me and something that I want to pass on.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
