I don’t know about all of you but I am a bit of a bible fanatic. I love getting new bibles and I have no idea why. I think it has to do with how different each one can be. If that makes any sort of sense. Today I want to share with you the ESV Illuminated Bible.
The ESV Illuminated Bible places full ESV (English Standard Verison) text alongside over 500 beautifully elegant hand-lettered gold ink illustrations by renowned artist Dana Tanamachi. This reminds me so much of the old family bibles that you used to see in people’s homes. You know the ones that were really large and just so beautiful. We never had one but I remember going to a friend’s house once and they had one. It was so beautiful to me. I wish I could tell you why but I don’t really know. I remember feeling upset that my family didn’t have one.
The paper is thick cream-colored which just adds to the beauty of the bible. I like the wide margins because I like to write notes within them. Especially at church during a sermon the priest may say something about a particular passage that I want to remember. I also jot down my notes when I am reading and during bible study. There are so many illustrations in this book plus there are more than 250 hand-lettered verses in the margin. Don’t worry they don’t take away any of the note taking space. I own several bibles and I can tell you this is one of my favorites. I have begun using it everyday which says a lot. Typically I use my Catholic bible everyday.
