Fantasy Friday: Budapest

Aug 22, 2014 | Rita

FantasyFriday

This week is actually a week I have been wanting to do for a while! Budapest is the capital and largest city of Hungry. It is also one of the largest cities in the European Union. I actually chose this because I recently watched The Grand Budapest Hotel and just fell in love with it.

Budapest

I have seen Budapest in movies as well as read about in novels and more. In fact Dracula himself is said to have lived in Budapest!

Buda Castle

His home was Buda Castle which would be on the top of my to see list. Actually the Labyrinth under the castle which was the prison of Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler or Count Dracula) in the 15th century.

Széchenyi thermal bath

Another place I would like to check out is Széchenyi thermal bath. I have never been to a public bath before. Széchenyi is the biggest and most popular in Budapest but it is also one of the biggest natural hot spring spa bath in Europe. It turned 100 years old last year.

Sadly the Grand Budapest Hotel is not a real place but hey you never know! In a few weeks we may travel there anyway since this is Fantasy Friday and we have been to Bertram’s haven’t we?

I bet there is a ton of great architecture to see in Budapest and Europe in general. I really enjoy Fantasy Friday this is probably as close as I will get to seeing many of these places.

I haven’t seen that movie either, but that looks wonderful. The last place I have been was Austin. We lived there a while. And I am going to Topeka In a few weeks.

I haven’t seen the movie The Grand Budapest Hotel yet. I hear it’s really good though. I will be honest I have never really thought about going to Budapest. After reading about it and seeing the pictures you shared I think it would be interesting to visit there. Thanks!

Wow! Buda Castle is so beautiful! I’ve never been in a real labyrinth (corn mazes don’t count lol!), so that would be the #1 place on my list too!
