Greenland is actually not the way the name sounds! I remember I had a middle school teacher who once said that everyone in Greenland got together and decided to name it Greenland to fool people into coming there since it was actually more or less ice and snow. In fact Greenland is the world’s largest island and over three quarters is covered by the only ice sheet outside of Antarctica. So it is COLD!
Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and is located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans. It has always been politically and culturally associated with Europe although physiographically it is part of the North America continent. Which I freely admit that I did not know before today!
The place to visit would be the icefjord in Illulissat which produces 70 million tons of ice bergs from the inland ice cap to the Diskobay each day. I have seen photos and it is simply a site to behold!
Another site to see is the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. I am sure because Greenland has so much open space these are much more spectacular here than anywhere else. I have seen these once many years ago while visiting somewhere else but I want to watch the show in Greenland once in this lifetime.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I have always wanted to go to Greenland!! I have a cousin who’s father was in the Navy when he was married to my aunt & he went to Greenland! I never believed him when he said it was super cold, because I figured how could it be cold when it was always Green! Lol. I have no idea if it’s always Green, but that’s what I thought when I was younger!

I remember reading or hearing that Greenland is mostly ice/snow which makes is mostly “white” while Iceland is actually mostly “green.” The joke was that they should really exchange names to be more accurate.

I’m not much for cold climates but I must admit I’d love to see the Aurora Borealis and am generally intrigued with Scandinavia at large. I would love to go someday – bundled head to toe!

I did not know that Greenland is the world’s largest island. I have always wanted to see the northern lights. The pictures I see all the time are pretty amazing. Beautiful place.

I didn’t realize that one could also see the Northern Lights from Greenland, although I should have! It’s been a dream of mine to see them in Alaska for a long time now, but I think I might have to also add Greenland to my bucket list!! And then take photos with my new camera, if I’m lucky enough to win one… 🙂

The pictures are so beautiful! I love winter so it would be awesome to visit Greenland. I can just imagine watching the day go by in the hammock you pictured!

I had no idea that Greenland was part of North America, quite an interesting fact. It seems like a beautiful place to visit.

Isn’t the mnemonic “Iceland is green and Greenland is ice”? I hate the cold, but I have to admit I’d go just to see those gorgeous sights! It really is bleak and beautiful.

It is and I agree that is bleak and beautiful!
