Fatal Catch by Roxe Anne Peacock

Mar 19, 2012 | Rita

If you are looking for a story that will capture you, draw you in, and make you a part of the story than look no further than Fatal Catch by my friend Roxe Anne Peacock. It’s filled with captivating characters, a page-turning plot line, and thought provoking twists.

About the book:

It’s 1963, and Chief Riley Bennett knocks on Dody Canfield’s door informing her that her husband died instantly when his car struck a telephone pole. Not wanting to raise her three children alone, it isn’t long before she brings home Frank Billings; and he’s moving in.

Mama sends thirteen-year-old Missy to take her little brother, Billie, fishing so she can have some alone time with Uncle Frank. Billie casts his line into the murky river water hooking the big one; granddaddy of all fish. He quickly hands the reel to Missy hoping not to lose his catch. Missy reels in slowly–bubbles begin emerging–releasing an undercurrent of secrets, deadly lies, and terror on the Canfield family.

The book starts out with a car crash, a police chief comforting the mom and the kids left to fend for themselves which may leave you a bit confused but as the book goes on and you learn about Billie fishing with his now deceased father, and his big sister Missy filling the role, you will understand the importance of  the beginning.  Fatal Catch takes you on an interesting ride.  “Uncle” Frank who comes to comfort the kid’s mom really brought the mysteriousness of the story to life.

Missy takes her little brother fishing, and he catches what he believes is the catch of a lifetime. The only problem is that interesting things start to happen. Things like secrets, which will wreak havoc on the family, deadly lies, and more that  will turn the Canfield children’s world upside down.

One simple catch that  makes the little boy happy, turns out to be a fatal catch. A catch that will not be forgotten anytime soon.
